Due to inter-airline connection complications and added transit-related costs, we decided not to fly with checked-in baggage. So the challenge now is on how to pack one week's essentials into a 7kg carry-on bag. I know it's kind of crazy but we're willing to constantly pay for laundry services and even buy essentials in the destination itself. The destination is Cairo. Thanks!

Wear a few layers of clothings before boarding and take them off on board, that may save you some space in your carry on bag for other things!

Nice idea. I can't fully grasp it though since I think you're not supposed to bring a jacket or a sweater to Egypt. Are you saying, I should wear multiple t-shirt, boxers, socks, and shorts under my pants?

Silk - I have 4 silk shirts which are cool in the day but smart at night and seem to need only a quick wash and an o0vernight on a hanger!

As you say - laundries are the way to go - we've done that several times.

Shoes - you need two pairs, max!

i've twice flown to the USA with only carry on, then gone straight to Duane Reade followed by a clothes shop on arrival. Favourite clothes come home with me, everything else gets dropped at the end.

When it gets to that level, either wash and wear, roll them up and put them in your pockets or pay for a checked bag,,,

Got it! Will also apply the military/ranger way of rolling clothes to save space.

We took hand luggage only for a 3 week trip to Egypt. We were stopped by security when leaving Luxor airport and asked about our lack of luggage! BTW We still managed to take some clothes we didn't wear.

Take lightweight fabrics and hand wash when needed.

I usually take just a carry on for two week trips and I found that the "space bags" are very helpful. I get the kind that you just roll up to squeeze all the air out and they do flatten whatever you put in them quite nicely and they are very quick to roll up and seal. I put things that won't wrinkle (or I don't care) like socks. They help so I can fit just a few more things in my bag. And I go shopping for things like toothpaste and hairspray when I get to my destination. It's always fun to try brands that I don't have at home.

How would security know what you have checked in please?

"we're willing to constantly pay for laundry services"

And how much is that going to cost you? Wouldn't it be cheaper to check a bag?

For fast-dry stuff check out hiking shirts and shorts. These are often made of quick drying fabric and can be super easy to hand-wash and dry overnight, and are generally light weight. They may also be comfortable in Egypt.
