Air Asia: auto seat assignment and hold luggage question
Save

Hello,

we're having a tiny 1h flight with Air Asia (Bangkok - Siem Reap). If I check in now we're seated together and even have a window seat with wonderful wing view :D However, I'm not sure if we do need more hold luggage allowance than we though and might top that up if necessary once we packed.

If we check in two days before the flight, will we still have the same pre-assigned seats?

Or can we still top up the luggage after we checked in?

Pretty sure you cannot top up luggage after check in, unless you pay the hideous fees they charge at the airport. If you have paid for seat selection there's no reason why subsequently adding luggage to your itinerary would change the seats you have selected.

Well, we haven't paid for seat selection. We figured we won't be standing in the aisle during the flight and didn't bother. Seeing that our seats assigned by the system aren't too bad I would not mind keeping them. We're flying Sunday, btw.

If you're not paying for seat selection then you get the seats you get, when you check in. There are no guarantees (and they probably won't be) the same seats will still be available by Friday. If you want to add luggage after you have checked in you will have to do so at the airport and pay excess baggage fees. Your call.

Cheers, that's what I needed to know. We'll see where we end up in the plane :)

Group of people booked under 1 itinenary are definitely not allocated sitting together if you do not pay to select your seats. This is Air Asia's tactic in forcing pasangers to pay extra though! Hence, it doesn't matter whether youncheck in 14, 7 or 3 days in advance prior your flight.

Referring to AA website, you can still purchase or even upgrade your baggage up to 4 hours prior departure time after web/mobile check-in. Below is the link of changes you're allowed to make prior the flight:

Well, everything went well. We were sitting together, though on one flight over the wing, on the other across the isle. And 20kg of luggage turned out to be sufficient for us in the end. Thus there was no need to buy more luggage.

Just wondering did your seats stay the same? I just looked at my booking coming up and our seats are fine and together so I didn't bother paying. It says auto assigned in the booking. I don't want to pay if they are already assigned fine.

Oh really? Usually seats are separated if you choose not to pay for seat slection! That's a great news! Anyone has encountered similar situation?

They aren't in one row but rather they are two seats on the window side (at the back of the plane where it becomes two seats only) then two seats in front of those two seats and then one side across from it on the aisle next to the back two seats. So 3 seats basically in a row and 2 seats in front. I'm happy with that. The flight is pretty full and it looks like they assigned everyone now as there isn't much space to move to beyond some of the premium seats.
