I am flying to the Maldives(Male) from London, I have to change at Dubia with a stopover time of about 2 hrs, how easy is it to find the right check in desk at Dubia, I will be on my own and a bit nervous about the change. Thanks

Dubia or Dubai UAE ?

In any case Emirates and DBX are fine. The airport feels more like a shopping mall with gates but one can easily find the gate for the next flight. Ask the info desk or in fact any shopping assistant if you feel confused

If you are travelling on one ticket, you will not need to check-in at Dubai. When you check-in at London, your luggage will be checked through to Male, and you will get boarding passes for both flights. All you have to do in Dubai is look at the departure screens to see which gate will be used for the Male flight, and follow the signs for that gate.

"in any case Emirates and DBX are fine"

or even DXB.

as has been said,if you are on EK (Emirates) they have there own dedicated terminal and your connecting flight will be clearly marked. Do note there are three sets of gates A.B and C and it might take 30 minutes from your arrival to the connecting gate if they are at either end of the terminal. The signage is very good and the Information desk staff are very helpful.

You will also have to go through security between flights in transit.

Most likely you will fly to Dubai International DXB. If you fly with Emirates you arrive and depart from Terminal 3 (Emirates / Qantas).

If you fly in with any other major carrier and leave with any other major carrier you will arrive and depart from Terminal 1.

Procedure is easy, as you arrive go direction transfer/connections (and not exit), you will pass a security check and if you have already you boarding pass for the next flight then you already done.

With two hours time you even time for shopping. Please keep in mind that the import of alcohol into the Maldives is not allowed but shops in Dubai might still would sell you alcohol.

If you should happen to fly in with a low cost carrier and especially if you fly with two separate tickets, then please do check what airport you arrive and depart. There have been cases of people arriving in Dubai World Central / Maktoum airport (DWC). This airport is around 50km away from DXB and you will need to enter the UAE to change airport and around 5 hours time between the arriving and departing flight.

If you need more information there is a Dubai forum here on TA as well.
