Is it always better to book directly with the airline? I am seeing the same price on Orbitz and United. Orbitz has a price guarantee component where if the rate drops, they will match.

If you read the requirements on the low price guarantee, they are almost impossible to meet. Go with the airline.

"I am seeing the same price on Orbitz and United."

Then why would you book thru a third party if it is the same price?

Is it always better to book directly with an airline? Yes. Because then you won't have to rely on a middleman should anything go wrong.

Because of the low price guarantee. If the price goes down, Orbitz will meet it, plus issue $50.

As has been covered here many times - the Orbitz low price guarantee comes with it's own set of Terms & Conditions - before you "fall victim" at a later time or pre-determine that it's easy to get - please make sure to read them thoroughly. For the same price today, I'd book direct - always.

The guarantee *seems* straightforward: you buy at ticket at $X then discover that the price has gone down to $X-50, so you think that you should be eligible for the price guarantee. The problem is that There are many different "classes" of tickets, and not just between first class, business and economy. Even though the seats and service in economy are identical, the tickets are sold in different fare "buckets". The lower price that you find would have to *exactly* match your ticket to qualify. That's why vegas-guide said that it's nearly impossible to meet the requirements. Therefore, it's best to go with the airline direct.

Depends. Simple trip can be booked directly from airline for a cheaper fare. Go to a famous face-to-face travel agency if your trip is complicated for a customize service and professional planning.

NEVER use an online one, and ALWAYS check with the Fare rules and other details before you pay.

The best price guarantee for flights needs to be claimed before 9.51CT the day after you booked. You will get the difference plus 50-200 in ozbucks if you are a member and the flight qualified. So you need to find the flight submit a claim, must be an exact match an d they will take 72 hours to respond.

By which time if they reject your claim the flight at that price will be gone, you will be outside the 24 hours cancellation period and even if you are successful your up by something you can only use on orbitz.

If there is another guarantee I am missing apologies, but this one is certainly not worth inserting a 3rd party for
