Baggage Dimension Information

I am travelling to Belgium and this is the first time I am going for an international trip. I bought a new baggage with External Dimensions (cms): 48 x 33 x 80. When I check the baggage information at Jet airways, its mentioned that dimension of 158 linear cms as allowed baggage. Will Airlines charge me with excess amount? should i change the baggage with in the said dimensions.

Your bag totals 161 cms in terms of linear dimensions - does this include the wheels/handles which will be included by the airline or are the measurements you provided are those stated by the bag manufacturer as they often exclude wheels/handles.

It's 3 cms over the limit so you might get caught on it but equally might not - I personally always travel with bags that are within the published limits.

I feel that this is always the best course of action. Not only would I keep the "linear aggregate dimensions" to, or < those specified, I would also make sure that each dimension complies with those of the airlines, including all handles, wheels, etc.. Then, I would be sure to keep the weight within the max. specified, if there is a weight restriction.

When UA changed their carry-on dimensions a few years back, we bought a new case, just to meet their new specs., though we had one that was just barely over. We just went with a newer case from Tumi, which DID match UA's dimensions perfectly, and with Tumi, unlike some mfgrs., the dimensions stated DO include every aspect of the case - handles, wheels, etc. So far, that case has fit perfectly into the sizers, with zero questions.

Good luck and travel safely,

Hunt

You forgot to ask the 2nd question: how much will it cost if they notice?

Fees vary from one company to the next, but $100 to $200 US isn't uncommon. That's one way, not r/t, and depending on your flight itinerary you might pay even more than twice if you don't buy a new suitcase part way through your trip.
