I will be travelling to Bali this Sunday. I am super excited. I over stuffed my checked in bags with lots of school supplies and stuff for adults. The checked in bags are also little over the size by couple of inches.

Is Delta pretty strict with their rules?

Thanks for your inputs

Airlines have size and weight limits for good reason. If everyone had the same idea as yourself it would cost extra in fuel costs which would put ticket prices up.

Best to either reduce both or be prepared to pay extra when you check in.

No, they are absolutely fine - as long as you stick to their rules.

Even if 1000s of people told you that they had had no problem with their luggage being slightly over the weight limit and slightly over the max dimensions limit, do you really think that it would make any difference if you were confronted at check-in by someone who insists on sticking to the rules?

No, of course it wouldn't.

That super-excitement may become a little jaded if your case is rejected because of size or you are charged extra for an over-weight case.

You might be able to get away with half a pound overweight, and if the bag is the right dimensions, just bulging a bit, then that might be OK too. It will depend on the agent on the day.

But if the bags are a couple of inches and a couple of pounds over, it is unlikely you will get away with it.

The only way to be sure is to stick to the rules.

Big pockets is the answer. Wear a coat with big pockets and stuff them full with your additional items. Get the luggage down to size or you might be going nowhere.

You might still have time to get something like a Rufus Roo. Google it.

Always assume that an airline will enforce it's rules on baggage. even if other people say they got away with having an oversized or overweight item it has no bearing at all on what may or may not happen to anyone else.

The advice above is good. Ensure your bag is within size and weight limits then you have nothing to be concerned about.

Everyone goes nuts shopping in Bali.

You should be taking an EMPTY suitcase.

If you are right on the weight limit, where are you going to put all your super cheap purchases?

"where are you going to put all your super cheap purchases?"

Sounds like the reason the OP has so much stuff is that she is planning to leave a lot of it (school supplies etc.) in Bali.

Thank you so much for all your replies. I still have couple of days to redo everything and repacking. I might have to remove a lot of adult stuff, and not touching the kid's stuff. It's going to be a bummer!!

All the stuff I will be bringing are gifts to family and friends and little village kids who are most defenately needs them. I will be leaving all the big bags in Indo, but my carry on bag.

I won't be needing anything from Bali to take home to US I don't think.

I will check on the Rufus Roo.

Thank you everyone.

What kind of stuff for adults are you taking? School supplies are so important. I would sort thru items that might be heavy or bulky.

BTW, I can recommend vanilla beans (baneela beegee) to bring back--along w/spices like dried peppers, etc. Very little space required.Great gifts! Bali is marvelous.

Watch the baggage weight and size; yes, DL can enforce their rules. Best to be in line.
