Direct Flight from Boston to Nashville?

Hi fellow travellers, I am trying to finalise our travel plans for October 2016 and am having trouble finding a direct flight from Boston-Nashville. I found Southwest airline in my googling but their online dates include October yet. We finish one tour after 3pm, 10 Oct, and start our next tour 6pm, 12 Oct. Should I wait til Southwest releases October flights and hope they still operate that route or is there an alternative to get there quickly? Is there a train service? After the long flight from Australia, my husband is reluctant to do 2 flights when it is such a short distance. Thanks for your help.

There is no direct train from Boston to Nashville. You can take the train to Washington, DC. That's about a six hour train ride at the least.

I don't know exactly when Oct. bookings on Southwest will begin but they are now only booking through June 3. It probably won't be until April.

I'm not sure which airlines fly directly to Nashville from Boston. I know that Delta requires a layover in Atlanta.

You are trying to book way too early. Jet Blue also fly this route direct but you will nee to wait until the new year to book anything.

It's not that short a distance; it's 940 miles or so (1510 km) from Boston to Nashville.

I believe you want a nonstop, not a direct flight (direct flights have stops). Not many airlines have nonstop routings; JetBlue does. Their flights are open right now through September 6, 2016.

Check out a US map; the country is far larger than you realize. Taking the train would take forever.

Wait until Southwest releases flights. They use Nashville as a hub so a direct flight shouldn't be a problem.

Amtrak has no train service to or from Nashville anyway.

You are looking for non stop flights. "Direct" has a whole other meaning in airline speak.

Southwest will first open flights through the summer on December 8 so flights for October are really not available for a while . Probably not until this spring. It is too early to see all the internal routes to small airports like Nashville. Take a deep breath and don't worry about booking them right now. It is not unusual for there to be few non stop flights to USA cities that are not our major economic hubs. You will be fine waiting until spring to see prices and routes.

WN/SWA *usually* releases their flight schedules about 6 mos. out (~ 180 days), where many other airlines work with ~ 330 days.

With SWA, tickets can ONLY be bought via southwest.com, and those flights will not likely appear on any airfare software - just on their own Web site.

Two good things about SWA is that "Two Bags Fly Free," and "No Change Fees," though fare differential will factor into things, should one need to change flights.

Other than a slightly odd (until you have experienced it the first time) boarding plan, SWA is a good airline. Though we only use them for about 5% of our airline travel, they are our #2 airline, behind UA.

I would wait, and you might even be able to get the SWA "Want to Get Away" fare, which will be quite low. Once they were thought of as a LCC (Low Cost Carrier), but those days are gone now - yet that Want to Get Away fare CAN be quite low.

Good luck, and fly safely,

Hunt

Adding to Riff M's and BrlDsguise's responses above. Go to SW's web site. Click on "Flight Schedules" to verify Riff's response, that SW will update flights to Aug 5th on Dec 8th. Sometime shortly after Dec 8th they will likely update to announce they will update in Jan/Feb flight schedules thru Sep/Oct.

If you go to "Low Fare Calendar" and pick a hypothetical date, you will see SW operates 3 non stops Boston to Nashville daily during the week. Highly unlikely they would cut from 3 to none, maybe two. Must be a very popular route. Nashville appears as BriDsquise stated a major hub for SW.

I doubt even for an Aussie 1000 miles is a short distance. That is like taking a train from Brisbane to Melbourne and as said there is no train. If you don't want to fly then you could always spend 24 hours on a bus.
