Does anyone have ideas on how to get a nice hotel room in NYC for about $100 or less ?
Born and raised in Manhattan, I think you wil have a difficult time unless you stay in one of the other Boroughs or New Jersey. Both are easy communtes to Manhattan. Search oneof the major hotel operators, ie. Holiday Inn and see what comes up.
because rooms are quoted without the taxes which add around 17% you are really looking for a room at around $80, which i would say is impossible.
one place which is often recommended is the country inn and suites at long island city. although off-manhattan it is close to the subway and only one stop into the city. it will be more than you want, though, but is probably as good as you'll get.
your other options are dormitory rooms in hostels with shared facilities. there are some listed on ta under 'speciality lodging' in nyc. be aware there are a number scams running with accommodation, and that there are many 'hostels' and 'hotels' which are actualy or technically illegal which can mean safety is compromised.
No idea man..Can't help you..
If you are looking in Manhattan that is impossible.
Depends on your idea of "nice" of course... but would agree with the others that NJ or Long Island (outside of city) are your best bet at that range. Also, when you allow for transportation, that naturally ups the price. A good starting point for you might be hotels.com.
Here is a link that also includes some hostels: (if it works...)

Links with more than 120 characters, or that contain non-alphanumeric characters, will not “hyper-link” on the forums. TA staff have suggested using the website “TinyURL” to create a shortened link that will work on the forums.
You can then copy & paste the shortened link into your post.
Thx Rescue -- good info, even if you did expose me as a technical dinosaur lol! As for our Israeli friend, you can also go to hotels.com and search for NYC hotels under $100…
Thanks everyone, for all your suggestions.
This is a usual question on the NYC forum. They will agree that there is no such thing as a $100 room in NYC but double your budget and they may give you some excellent suggestions. Good luck.
