I'm just wondering if the water is safe to drink. I would like to fill up water bottles to take to Atlantis but I want to be safe and the waters gotta taste decent! Thanks for your help!

The water is safe to drink, but you might not like the taste.

I know for a fact, having visited the water treatment plant on Paradise Island, that all the water provided on Paradise Island comes from the Atlantic Ocean and is treated by reverse osmosis desalination. It is very pure, but to be absolutely safe in case there is distribution lines contamination, you can bring a Brita or Pur pitcher

filter as I do. I drink the water all the time there and have never had a problem with it. I fill my water bottles and it tastes great but it is not very cold since it comes from a warm ocean. That's why to some it tastes funny.

In Nassau and on New Providence Island the water comes from wells and is barged in from Andros Island.

I would be more cautiuos about drinking the water on New Providence. I don't drink it there as I am not sure about how it is treated.

We just got back from our trip and drank the tap water with no problems at all. Alot of people drank bottled but it tasted just fine and had no problems.

We drink the water - never had a problem in the 20+ years we have been going to Bahamas. We don't even notice the "smell" people refer to.

I never noticed a smell, but it tastes like, well, tap water. I filter at home with a Brita. Maybe I just got used to the cleaner taste.

hunnynut,

What an ignorant statement. Do you know how much "stuff" is in city water before it's cleaned up? Or how much animal waste and how many farm chemicals are in the water in the country? Go ahead and drink bottled water, but look closely at the label. Most of it is tap water cleaned by reverse osmosis.
