Hi - we are trying to get an idea of where everything is located -- we will be on a cruise ship docking around noon - so will be there for the afternoon and evening.

Of course we want to see the infamous cliff divers - where does that take place and where do the cruise ships dock?

I was looking at a map online but did not know what to look for! :(

Thank you

The port is directly across from the Zocalo--the center of the old part of Acapulco. Check out google maps and search for Zocalo Acapulco Mexico. You will get a general idea of the location. Also look for La Quebrada on the map and you will find the general location of the cliff divers. The cliff divers are a five to 10 minute taxi ride away at a cost of approximately 25 pesos. Your cruise line will also offer this as part of their tours if you do not want to venture off on your own although you will get a different flavor of ACA on your own. Enjoy your stay in ACA!

The cruise ships dock approx. 1 mile away from Centro which is the heart of the city ( the old section of town )It is right on the costera which is the main street that runs through the city. The cliff divers are located in La Quebrada which is a short taxi ride from the dock. Right in front of the dock is Fort San Diego and if you look at the fort from your ship the divers are to your left.

I'm always viewing the cruise ships from the Malecon or up at Las Playas. Sorry for the confusion.

You might find the following to be of help, if you care to have a look.

1. Click (or copy & paste) this link ... which will take you to an excellent satellite street-map of Acapulco:

www.world66.com/lib/map/handle…|mexico|acapulco

2. Locate the two red "house" icons in the middle of the map; place the hand-cursor midway between the two "houses"; and double-click (to enlarge that portion of the map).

3. Repeat step #2 (above) ... two more times.

4. You should now be able to easily identify the cruiseship terminal (in the center of the map - toward the right side) - and, just above it (along La Costera), the pentagon-shaped Fuerte de San Diego.

If you look to your left, you'll see a red "house" icon coupled with what looks like a gold "castle" icon - and that would be La Quebrada (where the cliff divers are).

As has been said, it's a relatively-short distance from the terminal to La Quebrada.

FYI #1: You can continue to zoom in anywhere on this map - and/or move it around (by simply holding down the left-click button on your mouse).

FYI #2: After completing the above steps ...

Place the cursor at the extreme left end of the cruiseship-dock and double-click to enlarge. Do this once more; then look for a stand of trees (left/center) & double-click on that. This will give you a clear view of the "town square" - a/k/a "el zocalo" or Plaza Alvarez - which is just downhill from La Quebrada.

Hope you find this interesting & fun.

Enjoy the cruise ... and your short stay in Acapulco.

Thank you all for the great info --

and your map, RonVal, IS SO COOL!!!!

I think I found the grove of trees -- the Plaza -- is it the one bordered by the curving road, Independencia ? In the photo when I clicked I see about 10 ships - surely these are not cruise ships!!! I am looking to the right of the grove of trees - along Av Costera Miguel Aleman.

I have a guide book on order that will surely give me the details I am searching for but thought I'd look around these boards first.

Also -- since you who have answered are familiar with the area.... I think I read that there is only one daytime cliff show at 1:30 - which we more than likely will not see since we dock at noon.

We do not want to buy the ship's excursion -much prefer to do it on our own.

I've read about making reservations for drinks at a nearby hotel (the name escapes me at the moment but it appears there is only one) to have a good view of the divers.

Would you suggest this is better than the main viewing spot? If there is not another afternoon show then we will be viewing a night time show.

I really 'hate' touristy things when we visit new-to-us places but I definitely want to see the cliff divers since we've not been here before and it appears to be 'the' thing everyone needs to see! :)

I will do a bit of searching on this board but if any of you have an idea of what to do on our own we would appreciate first hand experience.

We are not interested in the beach scene - we prefer to just walk around and see the town - get a feel for what Acapulco is all about - we do not need to eat anywhere since we can eat on the ship but if there is a 'not to miss' restaurant we'd appreciate a heads up on that as well.

Vegas

Other then the special dive show times for the cruise ship passengers the evening hours are 7:30, 8:30, 9:30 & the final show at 10:30 the divers perform & dive with lit torches which may be a nicer show for you pick a dinner spot & watch the last dive show if your able to.

On a final note extremely close to the dive show and not all that far from the cruise terminal is the Hotel Los Flamingos.

This is not a can't miss spot because of the dining experience but the views & Ambiance from this location at sunset especially are pretty spectacular. You can feel free to use there pool as well provided you do purchase some drinks and/or food.

Oh and in regards to where to watch thats up to you as everyone seems to have there preference on where to watch. I would say La Perla At the hotel El mirador will be a nice spot but you will pay for this premium location.
