Laptop computer question |
|
Office Depot, Office Max, Walmart, Sam's Club,Coppel and others...the big discount electronic stores haven't surfaced in Maz yet. Not sure what the prices are like for those specific items but the ones I compared were close enough to justify not bringing them.
|
From what I've seen, prices on electronics is pretty much what you would see NOB. You won't get much of a "deal" in Mazatlan. Not sure I totally understand your question, but we just bring a mouse with our laptop, use the keyboard that comes with the machine, and find any old table top? But perhaps we're missing something....

Thanks---Didn't know Maz had all these stores. I'm referring to using a laptop like a desktop: To make the laptop comfortable to use(normal sized keyboard, mouse and if using laptop monitor getting it in position ergonomically). They have stands for this-I'm assuming one of the stores will have a laptop stand. They mainly elevate monitor, etc. and then you use regular sized keyboard. Makes using laptop much easier.

Nearly all electronics here are 50-100% more than in the EE.UU. M

You will find better deals in the U.S. Electronics are expensive in Mexico, but they are readily available, as mentioned. Because of the length of your trip, a notebook stand might be practical. I travel all the time, and normally bring a wireless full-size folding keyboard and wireless mouse. I don't use a notebook stand normally, choosing to just put the notebook on a stack of books, or for extended trips, I bring a docking station, and just buy a monitor where I go. I tried the notebook stand route, but they were really heavy for the most part, and I found that if I was staying for more than a couple of months, that squinting at a laptop screen just didn't cut it, no matter what height it was at. It was too hard on the eyes (I use a 14" screen).

Any idea what an inexpensive docking station, 14 inch monitor and regular keyboard and mouse would cost in Mazatlan?
|
I'd plan to bring the docking station, keyboard and mouse with you (they're small and light) if you plan to go this route. If you bring a folding full-size keyboard, they're compact and light. A 14" monitor is not worth the money, I'd think - you can just use your laptop on a pile of books. I use only 19" to 22" monitors for extended stays. Anything smaller, and you might as well use your notebook. However, to give you an idea so you can compare to U.S. prices: A 17" LG LCD monitor at Office Depot sells for 2700 pesos (about $260.00). There might be better deals at Sam's Club or Wal-Mart, I'm not sure about that. A similar monitor at Office Depot in the states will sell for about $200.00. This should give you a general idea of the price differential. A mouse will start at about 225 pesos and go up to about 600 pesos, depending on the type you get. A Microsoft Wireless Laser 5000 is about 600 pesos ($55.00). Hope this helps, may you have a successful trip!
