Couple more questions??

We usually go directly to our condo from the airport but we are wondering if....??

Is it possible for a taxi driver to stop at a cervaza

deposito on the way to our condo from the airport?

And then drop me at Gigante--which I guess is now Soriana. My husband will go on to the condo. I can do the "grocery thing" and then grab another taxi.

The plan... once we have gotten our luggage head straight for the curb..guess there could be a slight delay if we get the dreaded RED light..

grab a taxi, cervaza deposito, Gigante/Soriana,

stop at condo long enough to put away refrigerated items, head directly to Mr Lionso's for Coconut Shrimp........ aahhhhh.. time to relax.

Two more sleeps.

Thanks

The plan sounds good! For a little more money, the taxi driver will wait for you at the store while you do your thing...this might be better than getting another taxi.

You might also think about going to Mega rather than Gigante - it's on the way down the same street towards Valentino's. Others don't agree, but we found the selection to be better in general, but it does vary.

Neils, Thanks for the info.

Our condo is just north of the Marina so we have usually used Gigante. I understand that Gigante is now Soriana. But I will check out Mega this year.

Have you done the Deposito thing on the way from the airport?

Thanks

done..thats sounds like a great plan! Have a great trip.

have i been under a rock? When did gigante switch to soriana?

Is the new Mega the closest of all the big stores to the Inn at Maz?

Thanks

We have used Mega and Soriana.

Both have highs and lows.

I def agree Mr. Lionso's @Playa Buja es lo mejor!

Yes, Soriana bought all the Gigante chain, of which I read are about 220 stores. They changed the name and image just recently, about a month ago.

They are also building a PEMEX gas station there, right in the corner.

Something new you will notice is that next to Office Depot, they made a City Express Hotel, which should be opened any minute now.

Lots of new things in Mazatlan!

Mazatlan Frank, Thanks for giving us the latest info on the Gigante/Soriana buy-out. I liked Gigante but I'm sure Soriana will work for us.

Evolzam, I was under the same rock you were. I didn't know there had been a change.

I think Mega will be the closest big store for you but one of the locals will be able to give you definite details.

Thanks

Done:

I was under the impression you were at Emerald Bay. We generally take a cab to the hotel, settle over a late lunch, and catch the bus to the stores and back. Much cheaper than a second taxi!

And Mega is a little closer than Soriana or Gigante or whatever it's called now. A block in from Valentino's, or directly on the Cocos or Juarez bus routes.

The Soriana buy out was concluded many months ago and, I think all of the former Gigante stores are now renamed and repriced.

OK - We will be at Emerald Bay (next Sunday). So, which of the two big stores is closer to us and easier to get to? I like the idea of checking in first, then going on the shuttle/bus to get there. MAYBE a taxi back if we can't carry the groceries. What about liquor on Sundays? Need to buy our margarita fixings. Any other good recommendations?

Soriana/formerly Gigante is only a couple blocks down the street from Mega, insignificant in the cab price...just a matter of preference.

The cab drivers are usually great about stopping to get whatever you want ..beer, groceries, whatever...AND Ley and Sorianna (not the old Gigante location) are on the way from the airport, not necessary to go out of the way to the other Sorianna (Gigante) location or Mega.

And...If you happen to get it, the red lite really won't delay you a lot.. :):)
