If you take a fishing tour boat, do they require licenses in Mexico? One of the ones we were looking at said that the license wasn't included (neither was the lunch or drinks) LOL

Yes a day license is required. Some tour operators include the license (and lunch) as a package deal. Others itemize. USUALLY, the companies that give you a single price that includes everything are better priced.

Ahh, ok. Where would we get one? I guess the concierge would be able to help with this as well :)

Fishing licenses are $12 per person and are purchased at the marina. You will need to purchase one.

In Mazatlan, like Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas, licenses are personal, while in Cancun or Cozumel, they go with the boat, so they are "included in the price".

The fishing license should not be a concern for you as they will sell you one at the dock before you go.

Traveller,

If you read this before you book a trip remember you are in the drivers seat right now, there are alot more boats wanting to take fishermen out than there are fishemen wanting to go.

The price should be about $200-$250 for a panga with licence, water & lunch now.

Cruisers will be a little higher but still looking for fishermen, so don't sell yourself short.

that's good advice Birdman and it is a buyers market at the moment. If you go looking for the deal of a lifetime you will be disappointed though because they can only discount those cruisers so much. It cost a substantial amount to run those twin diesels at trolling speed for 6-8 hours.

This is very true. You'll note that a fishing trip in Mazatlan is substantially less expensive than trips in other parts of the country - this is because they are taking very slim margins for their services.

You'll find that it's more cost-effective for them to sit empty than to lose money on a trip. Bummer for the crew, who don't get wages that day, but the boat owner won't take a loss to put the boat on the water.

Compare prices with Cabo, Cancun or the Riviera Maya, and you'll feel better about the deal you're getting in Mazatlan, even at the advertised rate.
