Well, I guess I get to eat a little crow. Today started out overcast, then there was a LOUD thunderstorm about noon, then some rain in the early afternoon. After looking at the satellite picture, it looks as if we'll be overcast some of tomorrow, too.

This is a VERY odd weather pattern for Mazatlán. I can remember some daytime rains during the rainy season in Mazatlán, but I think this is the very first daytime thunderstorm I've ever experienced.

But hey, I never said that 100% of our rainy season rains were at night!

Your point still stands Mazbook. I have never had a vacation to Mazatlan ruined because of rain. Generally if you go for a week or more during the rainy season you may get a couple of overcast days but the sun is never far away.

On another site I noticed a weather pattern off the coast of Baja. It could effect Mazatlan.

Those weather patterns west of the Baja rarely, if ever, affect Mazatlán.

This unusual storminess is coming up from off the Jalisco coast to the southwest of Mazatlán. This is something not often seen unless there's a hurricane in that area.

Normally, our rains during the rainy season start out in the mountains to the east and slowly move down to the coast by sometime in the night.

The satellite picture looks as if we're in for at least one more day of heavy to light overcast. We've had a tiny bit less than one inch of rain between 4 a.m. and 9 a.m. today.

We got more than an 1 1/2 in Centro AND in Playa Sur we lost power for more than 4 hrs.

Its been a very strange year for weather patterns throughout the world. Mazatlan being no exception. Give me this weather over that COLD COLD winter anytime!

Still have that weird overcast pattern today (Wednesday) but it's going away and being replaced by the more normal one, so we'll probably get more rain tonight and maybe a thunderstorm.

That odd weather pattern gave us 1.5 inches of rain last night between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m., but not a thunderstorm.

Still hot & humid - its also the peak (Sept - Oct) of hurricane season (such as it is on the Pacific coast).

If I could pick 2 months I wouldn't come to Mazatlan, it would be Sept. & Oct.

Early October:

Usually about 90F. and humid. Maybe a little rain, but at night....unless there is a hurricane, of course. :) The heat and humidity usually lasts well into October and maybe into early November. Last year we were in Mazatlan Oct. 6-13, it rained only one evening, otherwise sunny, and it was always 88-90 degrees during the day, about 78-80 at night. The humidity was well over 80% in the a.m., 'dropping off' to usually about 65-75% during the day. Carrying a little cloth around helps to keep the forehead dry......

The beauty of that time of year is that the place is very lush and green, relative to the drier times of the year. The Islands, hills, and peninsulas look great!

I'm sorry for being annoying here but I really am confused.

One of you says the "two months you WOULDN'T visit Mazatlan is Sept. and Oct."

Then one of you says when you were there in Ocotber, it was amazing weather and only rained once(which I don't mind at all, a rain storm is sexy, may rainstorms are a wasted vacation)

Looking at the average rain in Maz in October, it looks like July and August are by far the most rainy months with 8.3 inches and 7.2 inches respectively. October has 3.4 inches average. That doesnt seem like much.

Guess I'll just chance it and go in October. If I get rained on 5 days in a row, I guess I'll live and learn.
