Got here Saturday at 3 37 pm, got through Immigration in 3 minutes - got our baggage in 5 minutes - got a red light at Customs (first time) it took all of 5 minutes. Through the Time Shark Tank and found our van from Thomas More Travel. Overall time from disembarking to sitting in the van about 22 minutes. A little bit of additional Police Security because of the Climate Conference.

Sunday was a perfect day weather wise, in the mid 80's with very little wind, spent most of the day on the beach. Picked out a couple of ceramic pieces to paint this week and then back to the beach. By the way the beach is awesome, yes the sand is a little coarser towards the water line but not uncomfortable. Lots of conch shells are available for shelling along the shore line.Great Welcome Party and overall a wonderful day.

Any questions?

Hi there,

Glad you made it thru customs fast....Was there a lot of military at the airport? Because of the start of the Moon Palace convention, did you see any disruptions on the roads? Thanks. Going to another royal resort this coming saturday. ( After reading your initial post again, I realize you answered my questions...Now I feel better about coming in this next weekend ....yeah!!! )...Royal Sands, guess you like the wider beaches this time? I was also going to do the Thomas More travel from Cancun to the Royal Haciendas.....

Will be there a week from Sat and the wait is killing me.

Is happy hour earlier or do we have to wait until 3pm?

How is the water temp at the beach and the pool?

What time does it get dark?

Thanks, Tom

we recently stayed in a 2 br oceanFRONT with friends who own there. loved the "vacation" sized drinks during happy hour!!!!! the beach was very nice and the slope not bad. i've seen larger slopes at beaches that didn't suffer the erosion from storms. the turtles had no problem racing to the ocean at night! LOL

Several hotels down is the Cancun Palace (south) wondering how the beaches are faring with the erosion? Have not seen much discussion recently so I assume they have leveled off.

Have fun...The Sands is Great.

Can you post some pictures of the beach / drop off. Just curious how the drop off looks. Pictures standing below the dropp off / from the water would be great. Whats the word on leveling it off ? Or.... are they just going to let mother nature do her thing ?

The beach drop-off is no problem at least here at the Royal Sands, it is about 3 feet at it's highest and just a slope to the water at it's lowest. The pool is perfect for cooling off and great temperature for water aerobics. the ocean makes you say ahh and at night it is like bath water. The weather today was about 80 and wind maybe 5 mph. Looks like it might rain a little tonight and be perfect tomorrow, either way who cares we are in paradise. See you tomorrow.

Another beautiful sunrise at about 6 am, short rain shower last night at 6:30pm. felt great and people weren't even concerned about getting under cover. Went to dinner at Paco's Taco's at the Royal Islander. The Royal Shuttles now run every hour instead of every half hour. No big deal just makes its feel more like I am on Mexico time instead of California time. This morning we have a onshore breeze at about 7 mph. Big billowy clouds and no rain clouds. Enjoyed a walk around the grounds while my wife slept in, vacations allow us to decompress from our normal pace, thanks Cancun for that. Another tough day is planned that will include the big question, a lounger by the pool or a lounger by the beach? We are planning to walk down to the Royal Mayan for breakfast at the La Palapa, it is their outdoor restaurant with a great breakfast buffet. We are planning to walk back along the beach, it is about 3.5 miles each way, we will see if we make it or use the shuttle for return trip. Check in with everyone later today and will try to post some pictures of the beach and the drop-off as requested. Blessings from paradise.

We walked down to the Tri-Royals and had breakfast at the Royal Mayan, then walked down to the beach for a look see. The beach at the Tri-Royals is about the same as the Royal Sands, at least in terms of the drop-off about 3 feet at the highest and just a small slope to the water at the lowest. The beach is not as wide at the Tri-Royals as it is at The Sands.

The rest of the day was spent doing water aerobics, painting ceramics and beach lounging. The rain blasted the area overnight and we awoke to a hard packed sandy beach. The morning had major clouds and overcast skies and I am sorry to say it never cleared, don't get me wrong it was still a wonderful day just not hot or sunny. Had so much fun at water aerobics our concierge offered me a job. He thought he was kidding and I am talking to him about it this morning at 9am. He thinks it is a meeting to fill out a comment form on his performance and I am using the opportunity to discuss future employment. We shall see how this meeting turns out.

Last night we walked down to the Casamagna - Marriott restaurant known as Mikado for Teppanyaki; we had wine, veggie roll, tempura broccoli and a 2 item teppanyaki plate and the total before tip was only $68usd. Met a nice couple from Boston who are stay at the Sands also. Walked back under a beautiful starry night sky.

Thursday dawned with a lighter cloud cover and the promise of a warmer sunny day.

Blessings from paradise.
