We really want a beach where we can get in the water and swim and float around, can we do that here or are the waves too strong? Thanks!
Not great out front more a wave jump sort of place, but if you walk 800 yards down the beach turn left toward club med it is very calm, there is a breakwater which makes it into a sort of lagoon.
chaloop : cancun is shaped like the number '7' hotels located along the top of the seven have calmer waters, hotels located on the side of the seven tend to have a stronger surf.
Floating around? Not in my opinion. Some days the waves weren't as strong, but I wouldn't call it calm. I think the best description was that of a "wave jump". That's mostly what people were doing.
depends on time of year you go, the summer tends to bring calmer waters there on the Caribbean side and quite often there is barely a ripple.
Cancun is shaped like the number '7' hotels located along the top of the seven have calmer waters because they are the BAY and not the Caribbean, hotels located on the side of the seven are on the Caribbean side which can be rough at times, and again tends to be rougher in winter months. But the beauty and quality of the water on the Caribbean side blows away the water on the Bay side.
At what km does the Caribbean end and the Bay begin?
I have lived nearby 18 years, our beach changes on a daily basis. Some days waves, some days like a lake. Summer is best if you like it flat, summer and spring are beautiful here ...winter is like winter anywhere, less attractive beaches

Seems the bay ends between 8 and 9 km I believe. I have walked around that beach area, and it is mucho calmer than the sea front ( anything past the 10 km mark ).
