playa del carmen?

firstly my family and myself are looking to come to Mexico in may next year, just wondering what to expect weather wise then, i know hurricane season is june- novemberish, and also really finding it hard to pick some hotels, decided not to stay in cancun as it will be a lot more livly and there might be a lot more younger people from america on spring break in cancun and the hotels generally seem nicer out a bit, looking at marina el cid and iberostar tucan, read reviews both seem nice, just wondering if anyone else has been?

also how big resort is playa del carmen? where could it be compared to in europe for example, i know not as big as cancun but what does it have to offer, is there good shopping there too?

thanks

This recent video of Playa del Carmen and Playacar will give you an idea of what Playa is like. It will also give you a lot of links to other videos of Playa.

May is a beautiful month to visit, and it is still the dry season. Spring break is over in America. All the beaches in Playacar and Playa del Carmen are beautiful. Playa comes to life after the sun goes down. A lot of the streets are pedestrian only and you can walk for miles if you wish. So much street entertainment and a few really neat places along the beach at night for live entertainment. Enjoy the videos.

i picked up 2 fake coach bags on 5th, but BE CAREFUL, some guys try to sell them to you as if they are real!! "for you $150 US" I started laughing so hard, i could barely tell the poor guy--"hey dude i live an hour from NYC and CHINATOWN!! I know what a fake looks like " i dont know if they sell REAL handbags, but i do know the "watch" shops are probably legit! but i personally wouldnt buy something pricey there, as i live near NYC and can get pretty much anything thats in demand! good luck and happy shopping---i would spend your $$$$$ on FOOD!!! absoultely yummy!

I am fairly sure Katzgar means Fifth Avenue....and yes you will get pestered but they are usually not overly agressive nor rude.

Cancun, Cabo, and Puerto Vallarta have more high end stores like Gucci and the like, Playa leans toward the more artsy/hippie stores, but there is brand name stuff to be had there too...try Liverpool on Fifth and around Calle 16 or so I think it is?

the most they do is ask you to come into their store, senor, senor, i found it not a problem or uncomfortable, but then we spent 2 weeks in JAMAIACA, and have no desire to go back from their "borderline harrassment and pestering" that was the 2nd worst country for "purchasing harrasment", the #1 worst where they phyisically touched me was PUNTA CANA. i would go back to PUNTA CANA for a 3rd time, just wont go anywhere to but anything, i dont reallu like people touching me! but it is a beautiful place!
