My girlfriend and I are traveling to Toronto tomorrow from Detroit for a little weekend birthday celebration. It's our 1st time to the city and we're looking for some suggestions. My apologies if many of my questions have already been answered elsewhere.
We've got a place booked near Bathurst St. & College St. in what looks to be Little Italy or Mirvish Village. We'll have a car but don't really plan on using it, if we don't have to. The streetcars and subway look pretty easy to navigate and I just read a single $10 day pass is good for (2) people on the weekend?
This looked like a pretty good map for anybody interested:
We'd like to avoid or skip most of the the touristy things but we definitely plan on checking out Kensington & St. Lawrence Markets. I'm sure we'll at least walk through Little Italy, Chinatown, Queen West, the Fashion & Entertainment districts and downtown Yonge area.
I'm not really interested in the CN Tower, Eaton Centre, Casa Loma or the Hockey Hall of Fame.
We'd like to stick to a little bit of a budget and tend to prefer dive bars and cheap eats anyway so, we're looking for some different suggestions on cheap food and drinks. We're not into clubs but we dig a good jukebox or just small, neighborhood type bars. We're also definitely night owls and could use some advice on finding good late night food options in the area?
I'm not sure how out of date some of the reviews are online but I've read good things about:
Although, none of them seem to be that cheap or open that late. Haha.
Tomorrow is my actual birthday and we might be getting in pretty late and it would be great to have a place or two, somewhat close to celebrate. I'd like to avoid anything too fancy or pretentious or $$$ and just have a good, relaxed time.
We'd also love to find a good coffee shop nearby, and hopefully some decent desserts maybe somewhere in Little Italy?
Has anyone spent any time in Little Portugal or Korea Town? And isn't there supposed to be a large Indian Town as well? Any opinions on The Distillery District? Or the supposed art fair going on there this weekend? And is there much to see or do in Old Town?
Sorry for the long list of questions…And I'm sure there are more that I'm forgetting.
We threw this trip together, totally last minute and I feel like I haven't done my homework at all!
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!
