Family of 6 seeking good self catering or B&B establishment in Kent or Essex, mid August, not on the coast; places that you can recommend that are quiet and well situated in a town or village.
Thanks
The Black Horse in Thurnham (near Bearsted) has some cottages in the gardens, ample parking and stunning local walks along the Pilgrims Way..The pub itself serves lunch and dinner. It's a 15 minute walk downhill to the nearest village, with rail connections, an excellent bakery/butcher/cheeseshop and 2 further pubs... a bit of a slog walking back uphill though! .
Belmont House near Faversham is also semi rural, with 3 some very pretty cottages to rent. Due to it's location, you'd definitely need a car, as there are no shops in the immediate area.
I'm not an expert in these types of accommodation but anywhere within walking distance of Bearsted would offer great train links to Maidstone (for shopping), Canterbury (historical/cultural attractions and shopping), the shuttle bus to Leeds Castle etc so sounds like worth investigating.
I love the countryside around Belmont Park but in their previous post they've stated they'd be using public transport. If there's anywhere suitable within walking distance of Faversham station then Faversham has such good rail links it would make a great base and it's such a likeable small town too.
We stayed at this place last year

Tenterden was a very convenient base for touring and has everything you might want in the way of shops, pubs etc. The house is on the main street but set well back from the road so not noisy.
Kate, did you have a car?
I love Tenterden and agree it would make an ideal base with a car. But although it doesn't say so here, this is a group of six who want to travel from Gatwick on public transport. As Tenterden is not on the national rail network, I don't think six people trying to get on a local bus from Ashford or another nearby station, with a week's worth of luggage, would be very comfortable. I'm not sure if there's any National Express coach to Tenterden. Maybe viable if they're prepared to arrange a car transfer.
I live close to Tenterden but I hesitated to recommend it as it is not linked onto the National Rail system. It is a great base to explore the area with a car. However just in case the OP does decide that a car would be the way to go there are some self catering and b&bs place on the 'Visiting' section.
This B&B in Eynsford maybe?
http://tabsfield.co.uk/index.html
Eynsford is on a train line from London to Sevenoaks. It's possible to walk from Eynsford station to the B&B, although the owners say they will collect. Lots to see and do in the immediate environment.
Ah, yes we did have a car. I hadn't spotted that they'd be using public transport.
You asked for advice on accommodation on this thread https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g186310-i1033-k9593301-o10-Where_best_to_spend_7_days_in_Kent-Kent_England.html so I can't understand why you ask again. Someone, on that thread, offered to speak to you by phone to give advice: did you take them up on the offer?

"It's possible to walk from Eynsford station to the B&B, although the owners say they will collect. Lots to see and do in the immediate environment." Eynsford station is situated to the south and slightly outside the village, whereas this B&B is situated to the north of the village and somewhat between Farningham and Eynsford. Not somewhere to walk to with luggage. There are a few attractions in and around Eynsford but probably insufficient to take up an entire week. Exploration further afield would have to be by train, either via Otford and then onwards, or to Sevenoaks and onwards.

I know that, Myrtle, that's why I said that the owners say they would collect from the station.
Also, reading through the thread again, I realise they want somewhere for a week without a car. It's unlikely that there is anywhere with public transport suitable for a whole week, especially since they don't want to visit the coast. Maybe Stephen J and family should think about staying in two places, each for a few days.
