Best hotel if visiting Uppingham School?

I'm planning to stay near Uppingham School and would really appreciate a personal recommendation of where to stay.

Have you had a look at the Falcon in Uppingham ? You could not get much closer to the school than that. It has just had some glowing reports in the local Rutland Living magazine if that counts for anything.

My mother-in-law always sings praise for the White Hart at Lyddington, just outside of Uppingham.

A bit further away (well, 10 mins) is Hambleton Hall.

I live in the area and felt the need to answer, so sorry for not giving a 'personal recommendation' as requested. Hope this is of use anyway.

I'd agree with Marcus. Uppingham is in Rutland by the way.

If the Falcon is full and you don't mind cheap and cheerful, there is a Travel Lodge about 5 miles away at Morcott.

Just down the road, literally, from the Falcon is this place. It always looks nice when I walk past it but I've not stayed there.

Don't stay in travellodge? Because when I stayed in Derby branch, there was a bed bug in it..
