Hilton Kensington or Hilton Islington? |
|
We will be in London for a few days at the end of September. Using HHonors points to stay and have narrrowed it down to these two hotels. Any thoughts on the better hotel? Better location for a 4 day trip? We are a young, fit, active couple. Thanks for any input! |

Hilton Islington is in the very midst of Islington, just off Islington Green with surrounding cafes, bars, restauarants & a few theartres. There are several good frequent bus routes into the centre of town & down to the City of London. So if you like to be out wining & dining with a fashionable well heeled 'young' crowd, then HO won't disappoint you. The Angel tube station is no more than a 3 minute stroll from HI.

Also, HI is an OK apres clubbin' walking distance up from Old Street.

I have to go with Em on this one. The Hilton in Kensington is in an odd-ish location, and although transport in that neighbourhood is good, the charms of Islington outweigh the slight aggro involved in getting to and from the Kensington property. Buses aplenty along Upper Street as well, and on the City Road and Pentonville Road to and from much of London. Exmouth Market is a plus as well.

FWIW I stayed in The Hilton Euston last week for the first time and was quite impressed, decent size room, 5 minutes walk to tube stop and then only 2 stops to Covent Garden, very quiet, decent buffet breakfast, helpful staff at checkin and checkout . At a guess, though I didnt do this, its also probably only 5 min walk from Oxford Street, and 10 minutes from Regents Park. Also had a gym, which I didnt use but will try next next time. It wasn't cheap (I think I paid about £160) but I imagine its a similar price to the others and maybe therefore similar points needed?

I missed a '1' off there, should be '15 minutes walk to Oxford Street :-)

Scouted out a new venue this morning for Sunday brunch: The Breakfast Club on Camden Passage - this is the Angel, not Camden market. The Breakfast Club, 31 Camden Passage, London, N1 8EA A recent incarnation of the Breakfast Club Soho - http://www.thebreakfastclubsoho.com/ We arrived at 10.00 expecting to be greeted as early birds, only to find it had been open since 7am (on a Sunday) & there was a queue for tables..... Hmmm, verrry interesting. Could be a breakfast hot spot for overnighters in the Angel area. The BC is just over the road from the HI, effectively round the back of the Pizza Express. I shall return to chomp my way through the menu - purely for the benefit of TALF. Please note, I did peruse the menu of Elk in the Woods -just a few steps further down Camden Passage - to be put off by the scratchy (& expensive) breakfast listing of a handful of set dishes e.g. Full English, Full veggie, Ouefs en cocotte, Kippers etc. All very 'full on' but a chore if all that is required is a fried egg & some streaky. The Wolseley, it ain't. http://www.the-elk-in-the-woods.co.uk/

What, no chips? And they call themselves The Breakfast Club. I like that vegetarian sausage is available, but wiv no spuds it ain't like breakkie, innit. I mean, really. Not even the merest hint of bubble? Hm. If the grub is good, then that's all right, but otherwise the modest and humble caffs of the capital shall be like beacons of light for those wanting egg and chips and a mug of tea, plus a few other delicacies. Nice that the Elk In The Woods includes beanz (sic) with breakfast, though.

Oh Tee Pee, how true that the Trad Caff cannot be bettered for the Right Scoff. But then Sundays have always been a day of rest for proprietors of said establishments, so we've always had to seek a compromise for the Big Brunch. I fear that many establishments offering chips for breakfast will offer pommes frites/fries rather than the hand hewn chips or bubble recovered from fresh potatoes or left overs. A bit of crunch is nice with a runny yolk.
