I had tentatively planned to be in the Dales the last few days in May/first of June. But I gather this part of the half-term holiday. Is it just that one week? How busy will it be--assuming I can find accomodation, will towns and paths be overrun? (This is one reason I'm avoiding the height of summer.)

Is it just that one week? Yes

How busy will it be--assuming I can find accomodation, will towns and paths be overrun? Fairly busy but you should find accommodation and it won't be overrun

The half term holiday up in Yorkshire is w/c 26th May, but some schools 'add on' a day or so into the second week (ie the 2nd/3rd June).

However.............although school holidays can make some places very much busier I don't think it will affect the Dales very much and you will be fine.
