We're planning a family weekend in August to celebrate my father-in-law's 80th birthday at the Goodwood Hotel. I've read very conflicting member reviews. But the bottom line seems to be that this is the nicest hotel in the area, it changed hands from the Marriott to what I perceive to be an independent, and the character rooms are far and above nicer than the other "standard room". Also, the restaurant doesn't seem to live up to billing, and one posting suggests eating dinner in "town". Any restaurant recommendations? And is this a good place for our extended family to spend a weekend?
