I think the nearest would be in Gatehouse of Fleet, either the Murray Arms, Banks of Fleet or Cally Palace Hotel. Closest village to Knockbrex is Borgue which has Borgue Hotel but I don't know if they have accommodation. Otherwise try www.discoverscotland.co.uk for self catering.

The Borgue Hotel does provide accommodation. We stayed there over New Year. It's in a beautiful area and the owners are very friendly. Good bar for the odd dram or two!

Hi, I notice that you have attended a wedding at Knockbrex castle. I am considering booking my wedding here but would like to know some info, e.g. what was the room like where the ceremony took place, how was the catering arranged and with whom, were the bride/groom responsible for organising additional furniture e.g. chairs etc???? It would be really helpful to find out what it was like from someone with first hand experience as I have tried to arrange a visit but am struggling as it is often rented out as we also live near Manchester!. Thanks in anticipation!! Jenny xx

Hi everyone

I let Knockbrex Castle and it can be viewed on www.lhhscotland.com. The previous post is slightly misleading as there are no "adjoining" properties and the castle is situated on its own in private grounds.

There are several good properties at Borgue Roberton or Vital Spark at Carrick but be very wary of Driftwood or Lichen at Carrick they allow pets and there can be FLEAS in ou experienc and the "caretaker" is a "gem" who seems to want a BUNG

I can highly recommend the Borgue Hotel in Borgue about 4mls from Knockbrex Castle. The hotel is spotlessly clean, lovely food, great couple and their dog - no finer customer services in fact!

The hotelier taxid us not only to the wedding but back again after midnight!

Went to a wedding this weekend at the castle. There were about 50 of us seated and standing for the service in the main hall - bit of a squeeze. It was a DIY wedding as there isn't any staff on hand so you take in your own food, drink etc and decorate the place accordingly, outside at least.

Would certainly vouch for Borgue Hotel - lovely owners and would look after you ! Would also recommend accommodation in local B & Bs in Gatehouse of Fleet. For catering, there is a firm caller Cartners from near Castle Douglas I believe, also the local butchers in Dalbeattie called T H Carson would do you a buffet also.
