We are planning a 10 day trip through Southern Ireland, starting in Shannon and ending in Dublin. We have several attractions that we've listed as "maybes" if we have the time to see them. Can someone let us know if any of the following are sites that we should not miss? Thanks.

Ardfert Cathedral

Rock of Cashel

Kilkenny

Wicklow Mountains

Powerscourt

Bantry House

Limerick

We just returned from 10 days in Ireland. I would skip the rock of Cashel. We waited three hours for a twenty minute guided tour that I could have given in five minutes. Also when we first arrived we were told the film was starting. It was .... in German. Go to the Dingle Penisula. Enjoy Ireland

Good question IrelandBound. Will be watching to see what other people say, as we are also thinking about what we can miss, due to lack of time, and what is a 'must see'.

We just got back from a London/Ireland trip. Had three nights in Ireland and chose to stay two nights at Jurys Inn Limerick. Limerick seems to close down when the shops close around 5:30 or 6. Pubs and a few restaurants are open, but the streets get very empty and kind of eerie. We went to see King John's Castle and Bunratty Castle while here and enjoyed touring both, but I definitely wouldn't say Limerick is a "must".

I too would pass on Limerick if you are pressed for time but try not to miss Bunratty Castle, the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren if you are in County Clare. The Rock of Cashel is nice if you are passing through but I wouldn't go far out of my way. If you are going south don't miss the Dingle or the Beara Peninsula. If you are going from the south back up to Dublin stop in near Cork to Blarney Castle.

How about Cragganouen in Co. Clare and Dublinia in Dublin? To do or not to do (with children)? Thanks!

I loved the Rock of Cashel. I'm from the states and that was one of our favorite palces. It is gorgeous and the cemetery is fascinating. It was one of the most beautiful places in Ireland. I'm going back in May to hit some of the spots we missed, like Donegal.

View Bantry house at http://www.bantryhouse.com/

There are lovely views of Bantry Bay. However it would be a shame to travel all the way to West Cork just to view one place. Why not try to visit Gougane Barra - www.gouganebarra.com. You could also travel from Bantry to glengariff to kenmare to Killarney. All extremely popular with tourists and locals! there you could try the ring of Kerry. if you decide to visit Ardfert http://www.heritageireland.ie/en/HistoricSites/South/ArdfertCathedralKerry/ you'll be near the area from Killarney.

Best of luck

I love reading all these nice replies. It's also helpful for my June Cork/Kerry trip. I lived in Clare and Tipp, and would definitely skip Limerick(Stab City- relax-predominantly local on local) if time is an issue. After the Cliffs of Moher I'd head South via the Killimer/Tarbert ferry and visit such places as Killarney, Dingle, Bearra, Bantry, Cobh, Glen of Aherloe, Waterford, Kilkenny, Wexford and the Wicklow Mtns. Along the way I'd reaccess time and if permitting I'd head back out Northwest for approx. 2 days in The Burren, Galway, Donegal, back down the Antrim coast and on to Dublin. It's impossible to predict Irish weather and circumstances alter cases. Some foggy weather will make a particularly nice scenic drive not quite so. We take the attitude that nice weather will be a bonus. I'd have to say that the last 7 times over I've been lucky and pleasantly surprised. Different strokes for different folks. Good luck.

I forgot Bunratty(to really see what life was like not too long ago in the folkpark and also one of the best Irish castles) and Cashel. Both were worth it. Happy travels.
