I have not posted a review yet, still trying to get the blood pressure under control. Our trip started off badly, very badly and it took several of our vacation days to get it corrected with absolutely no help or advice from our travel agency. Our flight was delayed causing us to miss our connection(s) from Newark and Edinburgh. After 3 days, we finally arrived in Dublin, but our luggage did not. It arrived on day 5. Needless to say, we had plenty of clothes leftover for the remaining 7 days and we threw the clothes we lived in for 5 days in the trash.
Once there, we had a blast. Yes it was a fully escorted tour, with a large bus and 48 strangers, but we also had an excellent driver/guide who showed and told us about places we would have not seen/heard about on our own. Yes, some of the places we went, I will not go to again, and some, I will be going to as soon as I can get back. Our driver was able to get us to places early in the day before the crowds, which we appreciated. The "group" meals were nothing to write home about, but we had some interesting and very good lunches that we scouted out on our own.
I will post a complete trip review in a separate posting as soon as I finish it.
The highlights for me were:
Cliffs of Moher
the rock walls, the sheep, the over landscape just stunning!
and the best time was had at Sheehan's in Killarney. We got there just as the band was starting and sat for 3 hours drinking Guinness and singing songs. Best night of the trip.
takeaways - we will not do a tour again in Ireland, we can do this on our own NOW, I would never have attempted it on my own the first time. I also will not ever depend on a travel agency to make my airline reservations for me. Our arrangements were just awful.
We will go back.
