I can't decide between these hotels. One is closer to the train station and appears to be nicer and the other is nearer to Marienplatz. Does anyone have experience with these hotels? I am taking the train in and out of Munich.

Reserve the nicer one - near the Hauptbahnhof. That's also within 10 mins walk of the Marienplatz.

I heard from someone else to reserve the one near the Marienplatz. Does anyone have first hand knowledge of these hotels or opinion to advise further?

I made a reservation at the one near Marienplatz but can change it.

It's all good. The Marienplatz, Englischer Garten, Festival Grounds (Theresienweise), several nice ole churches, museum's, and the Hofbrauhaus are all within 15 mins walking-distance. I rarely use trains or taxi's im Munchen, except to go back & forth to the airport or out of town. I like to walk a few miles per day, and I need the exercise. Also, you can take the U-Bahn from a stop almost directly in front of the Glockenspeil - on one end of the Marienplatz, directly over to the Theresienweise stop. It's only about 4 mins..

The Marienplatz is a much nicer area than the Hauptbahnhof. For instance, we stay at the no-frills Blauer Bock on Sebastiansplatz solely for the reason that it is so close to everything. Also, from Marienplatz you can take the subway to the Ostbahnhof, where you can pick up some trains going east and not have to deal with the extra busy Hauptbahnhof.
