My boyfriend and I (both early 30's) are hoping to have a romantic getaway for a week in late June/early July after not having seen each other for 6 months! We are looking at flying from London to Naples and then exploring the surrounding area or even basing ourselves somewhere on the Amalfi Coast rather than Naples itself.
My boyfriend is a major water baby and his sole requirement is that he is near water and can go swimming every day. He is from Bondi Beach so I'm sure you can imagine his expectations of a good beach - no pressure then!
My main question is (yes, I am finally getting there!) should we base ourselves in Naples and do daytrips from there, or base ourselves somewhere else and stay relatively put? We want this holiday to be as relaxing as possible and don't want to do too much moving around especially as he would have just had a 24 hour flight from Sydney a few days earlier.
I was thinking of possibly staying a night or two in Naples at the start and then having 5 night somewhere else. While we don't want to move hotels too much we would be keen to do day trips to surrounding islands/villages.
We would like somewhere not full of eldery people or families (sorry!) but that has bars and restaurants and shops - a bit of atmosphere and things going on (but not a party place).
My second question is - is it necessary to book ferries in advance - i.e. a ferry from Naples to Positano or Amalfi? We would of course book accomodation in advance but it might be nice not to have ferries locked in if we don't need to.
I realise this is a LOT of information but from what I see on these forums, providing more info can be helpful for people to tailor their advice to (?).
Thank you so much for your help. I have never posted on these forums before but I want this holiday to be as perfect as possible!
