Can anyone tell me how much a taxi for 4 people to the River Palace hotel from the airport would cost? Would I need two taxis or would we all get in one?

The River Palace Hotel is outside the Aurelian Walls, so taxis would not be bound to honor the 40 Euro fixed rate and would go by the meter, at Tariffa 2 outside the ring road and, theoretically, at the lower Tariffa 1 within the ring road.

I would suggest you save yourself the hassle and contact one of the two car services often recommended here - www.romecabs.com and www.romeshuttlelimousine.com - for quotes for four people.
