Question about trying to catch a 6:15AM flight out of Rome

We are returning home to Minnesota from 2 weeks in Italy on July 5th. The flight options aren't great....really only 2, 1 leaving at 6:15AM and 1 leaving at 12:45PM. The price difference for the 3 of us would be about $250 apiece. BUT...what options do have for staying close to the airport and catching that early flight without sleeping at the airport all night. What is it like trying to get to the airport for that early flight and what time do we really need to be there?

Rather than having to spend time switching hotels and then spending your last night in Italy out by the airport (where there is NOTHING to do), just plan on having a driver service pick you up early - you might let them recommend what time, based on your flight.

Romecabs is a very highly regarded service. I'm not sure how to contact them, but if you google them I think they have a website.

There's a Hilton connected by walkways to the airport, but it's pricey. There are other less expensive hotels in the airport area, but their shuttles don't operate that early and local (Fiumicino) cabs are comparatively expensive.

Your best bet is really to spend the last night in central Rome and reserve a car service for the ride to the airport. For three people, it would cost 40 Euro with www.romeshuttlelimousine.com - not that much more than the 33 Euro it would cost with the Leonardo Express if it were operating that early.

If it's a flight within Europe, I'd suggest you get there 1.5 hours before your flight. The trip to the airport shouldn't take more than 30 minutes, barring accidents.
