I never want to continue any type of polemic or whatsoever but trust me, you are just speaking of something you obviously don't have any clue about. I am not saying that Rome isn't safe. It is safe. Absolutely. But telling people that termini area is the low rate crime is just and plain FALSE. Let me just cite you some statistic from years 2004 – 2005 – 2006 (just google "La criminalità nei Municipi di Roma" and take the first pdf)
crimes reported to police in Municipio 1 (The center: Monti, Trevi, Colonna, Campo Marzio, Ponte, Parione, Regola, S. Eustachio, Pigna, Campitelli, S. Angelo, Ripa, Esquilino, etc.)
numbers 26.235 31.598 32.021
against all the others at about 6500 all years (exception for Municipi 6-7-8 Tiburtino, Prenestino, Labicano, Tuscolano, Collatino with about 13000 crimes all years; Municipi 11-12 with around 19000 average and Municipi 17-18-19 with average 21000). So your statement is falsified by evidences.
By numbers as matter of facts in Municipio I we had by that statistic (from the official observatory for crime in Lazio region) 21,4 crimes every 100 citizens. Now i understand that being a tourist like you maybe, imply that the time you're actually staying in rome is limited and since the statistics grows with integration in time this may explain you are unaware of most of the things i've personally seen, but if you live here like me you WILL feel the places in a pretty different way. And with this i finish being not interested in convinvincing anyone. Have a nice stay.
