First week of June

I am thinking of doing a trip with 4 nights in Rome and 4 nights in Florence the first week of June. I am reading some stuff about Italy being hot and crowded in the summer, and I am wondering if it is a mistake to travel there that time of year. Can anyone give me any guidance on:

1) How hot it might be the first week of June, and

2) How bad the crowds might be?

Thanks!

Summer begins officially on june 21st. Beginning of June is a lovely season to be in Florence and Rome. June 2nd is a holiday.

June is a lovely time of year to go, definitely not too hot. There will be lots of people in Rome and Florence, but there are most of the year. If you go expecting them, then it won't ruin your time there.

What exactly goes on on the June 2 holiday? Will things be closed? Or conversely, will things be really crowded because everyone has off?

It's Republic day. State offices will be closed. This year it falls on a Wednesday, which means there's no "bridge" to the end of the week, so there will be no great surge of visitors from within Italy, although there will be some . Uffizi and Accademia will be open.
