Dear tripadvisor destination experts,
We really need your help with our upcoming trip to Europe in mid Dec 2012, especially since its our first time in Switzerland
1) flying in first to Milan. After a few days in Milan, we travel by train to Switzerland. We intend to stay 4 or 5 days. We are not sure whether to travel by train Milan - Zurich or Milan - Lucerne. Suggestion for most direct and shortest route?
2) We want to see usual tourist sites in either or both Zurich and Lucerne and also go to Mt Titlis. Any other suggestions? Should we skip Zurich and consider other places
3) We know that mid Dec is going to be very cold. But tourist places etc would still be open? Is it worth going to Switzerland during this time? Lots of people told us that it's going to be very gloomy and we'll missed all the beautiful scenery..and most places will be closed..or should we just extend our trip to other parts of Italy and skip Switzerland?
4) Our last stop for the trip is Paris (we are flying home from here), so will be travelling by train from Zurich/Lucerne to Paris if we sticking to Switzerland.
Based on Milan - Switzerland - Paris route, should we buy the rail passes for 3 countries and add the Swiss pass? Or just point to point tickets?
Thank you in advance for your responses and suggestions,
