If you have only one day to make a day trip, I think Delphi, Mycenae, or Olympia would be more interesting destinations than Corinth. But as you will be in Athens for three weeks, you may want to do more trips outside the city, and that's how I would rank them.

Hi,

It is worth a visit but do include Ancient Corinth as well. Buses for Corinth depart from the terminal at 100 Kifissou Street. With three weeks you can certainly visit many other amazing places !

No it is not if you are planning to stay for less than a fortnight in Athens. There are so many things to see in Athens why waste a perfectly good day in Corinth.

No you can't get boats in the channel,.

Kitsos, the OP has already said they are here for 3 weeks!

There are canal cruises, one is/was Canal Vista. There are others, I've seen the boats go through & they also used to run trips from this area specifically to do just that, but can't remember the name of the tour boat.

Your only problem may be that they are seasonal.

Than it is ok,still a visit somewhere more beautiful is highly recommended ,maybe a trip w/ the suburban train to Halkida ?

Or a day trip to a nice island like Aegina?

Corinth as a city is one of the ugliest provincial towns in Greece (not that we have many beautiful ones..:):) )...

When driving to the Peloponnese we have stopped at the viewing point to have a look down at the Corinth Canal. It is mildly interesting but I don't think I would make a special trip to see it. There's no reason to visit the modern town of Corinth but I believe Ancient Corinth is impressive. However I agree that if you are planning day trips out of Athens then Mycenae, Epidavros, Delphi all rank higher.

Personally I think that stopping off in Isthmia at the canal is a perfect complement to Ancient Corinth- it's fun watching the big ships come through and the bridges raising and lowering. Not to mention watching the bungie jumpers!
