Suggestions welcome please on where to find a cheap and cheery bed in Kos near the airport. We've just found out our resort turfs us out at 12noon before a 4.30am flight!

We have three children and they need their sleep, so advice on cheap andcheery hotel beds nearby would be gratefully received.

Thanks in anticipation

Robin and Willow

Are you actually in Kos at present? Many hotels give you the option of having a room available till later, even it you have to pay for it. What day are you flying back? If you have a bit of time then maybe you could ask around locally.

try this place

http://www.nissiakamares.gr/

what date are you coming back?

what we do when we have night flights is take a blanket and pillow for the kids to sleep on when at the airport, it is amazing how they can sleep on the floor - maybe you can find somewhere to buy a blanket or even a lilo that you can put a sarong over and they can sleep on those - it's a cheap option

good luck

I don't think "sleeping on the floor" at KGS is an option at this time of the season!! For a start, unless you know how to beat the system, you will be herded into a queue outside until they decide to allow you to check in, and then the place is heaving with people. There is also the small matter of what you do in the resort until the tour operator picks you up?

Try to negotiate a price to either keep your room, or be moved to another. If this is not possible which would surprise me, then get back to us for other but more pricey options.

I agree there is no way your children can sleep on the floor at Kos airport, you will be lucky to find a seat to sit down.

What hotel are you staying in?

having travelled a lot with my kids, I can assure you that they can very easily sleep on the floor of airports - they have done it many times when getting horrid night flight - it's either them sleep on the floors on their blankets or cry and scream like everyone elses kids who have come unprepared - it maybe that at Kos that space is an issue but there is always a corner somewhere for them to rest

The problem at Kos airport is that it is very small. Often there is not enough room for people to go in and ytou have to stand in line outside, sometimes for hours. Once inside its like playing sardines.

sounds horrid and I am going to be there with my kids for our lovely night flight home - we will come prepared as normal and hopefully they will have someone to rest - they can curl up small ;-)

Hi there,

Thanks for all your advice. In the end we paid (quite a lot) extra to stay in our room in the resort until 2.30am, then took a private transfer.

So glad we did, the queue was still outside when we arrived - and some children were very upset. Our children had six hours sleep, and so did we!

To the people who said we could sleep in the airport - they wouldn't even let us in the airport until 3.30am! There were people smoking and drinking outside, not a good enviroment for children to sleep.

I think it's a pretty shoddy system actually and I can't understand why people put up with it, when they're paying huge prices for a holiday. I certainly won't be doing it again. I'm organising my own flights next time.

Hi Robin and Willow

Thanks for reporting back and glad you got sorted! Kos airport is awful. I always book my flights now,( Easyjet go Gatwick to Kos) that way you have a choice of flights, and dont have to line up outside! Then book the hotel direct.

So glad you managed to sort it out even if it did cost you extra. Kos can be a nightmare for package and we always book independently. The only time we did do a package we made our own way by taxi to and from the airport.
