Parga via corfu

Hi all we are planning to return to parga this year (june) but are doing it via the corfu route as the cost of package holidays this year are ridiculous! Also it seems to be straightforward however could anyone confirm this is the case? Thanks in advance

I am certain we will thanks, its just marrying the flights up with ferries, it looks like we may possibly stay in corfu on the first night due to flight times, can you recommend anywhere nr to the Aiport? Thanks

I can only echo connysir's comment. Go for it ! And Rather than stay near the airport, why not get a taxi nearer to town (for a nice meal) and close to the port ready for an early - ish ferry! Lots of people recommend the Hotel Atlantis, it's 15 mins walk into Corfu town and right opposite the ferryport.

Echoing SteveAndSoo's comment, most people, myself included, stay at the Atlantis which is literally across the road from the ferries, it would be ideal for your needs and is very competitively priced - the taxi from the airport should cost no more than €10 (2013).

Brilliant! Thanks all i have checked this out and i know where it is now as i have been to corfu many times so it has refreshed my memory! It seems the best way to do things as 2 of us can return to parga for the same price as booking 1 of us on a package hol! The prices fir package hols this year are very high so i will definately be doing it this way, i am really looking forward to it now........thanks again peeps x

We did this route in 2012, very easy. Ours was a morning flight so got straight into taxi from airport to port. The taxi pulled up at ticket booth and we bought our tickets and then got back in taxi and he took us to the ferry. Out return flight was mid-day so had an early start from Parga. My only advice would be give yourself plenty of time to get your return ticket at Igoumenitsa as it was chaotic and we only just made the ferry, had we missed it we would have missed our flight. This year we have booked Corfu again but have also booked a night at the Atlantis Hotel on our return journey to take the stress out of it and also looking forward to a night in Corfu town.

It sounds as though djsches travelled with easyjet on their Saturday flight. Last year my son joined us and flew Sat/Sat out of Luton but with similar flights timings and, yes, it was chaotic. If he joins us this year he is considering returning home on Friday which, similar to Manchester, has a later flight - he feels that he won't be missing out too much on time in resort and he has the double bonus of cheaper return flight and no hotel cost.

Whichever way you do it you'll really enjoy the experience. It may seem a little strange not being part of a package holiday but it's far more adventurous and although you have made this decision to save money I think you'll end up being bitten by the 'indie' bug.

Incidentally, the service offered by the airport taxi drivers is very good and delivering you to the boat after buying a ticket tends to the norm and sometimes it can be the difference between getting on a ferry or waiting for the next. On one occasion when getting tickets in Igoumenitsa (Saturday morning rush) the queue was so long that kiosk operator told everyone to board the boat and pay at the pursers office' which we did. Last September we boarded the ferry without tickets and ended up having a free crossing - a long story but we were very willing to hand over our €20 to anyone who was prepared to take it and issue a ticket.

This brings me to the point about frequency. The ferries sail every hour or so from very early to very late and are work-a-day ferries which means the only things to stop them is the occasional strike or bad weather.
