View of Corinth Canal
Save

Hi All. Would like to leave the highway en route to Diakofto from Athens Airport to get a view of the Corinth Canal. Have read some advice on this site but am still confused!! Is there a different turnoff depending on which way you are continuing or is there only one viewpoint. Is it easy to get back on to the highway. Are the submersible bridges at a different exit point.

Thanks

There is only one viewpoint. Driving from Athens, you follow directions to Korinthos. As you approach Corinth, you will go through a set of tolls, after that there is a turn off to the right marked Loutraki and Korinthos Isthmos. Follow directions to Korinthos Isthmos for the main canal bridge.

From the bridge follow directions to wherever you're heading to next, presumably Patras, to get back onto the motorway.

The main canal bridge is (more or less) in the middle of the canal. The submersible bridges are at either end. You will need a map or GPS to find your way there and back. From memory, you follow signs to Epidavros for one, and Loutraki for the other.

You are very welcome :-)

I took a while to reply because I wanted to make sure I had the right info for you. I drove past the area last night and finally had the opportunity to check the signage.

BTW I'm pretty sure the submersible bridge that's in the direction of Epidavros is the easiest one to get to.

I you do go to that end of the Corinth Canal there a nice Taverna were you can sit and watch the bridge go up and down and the boats go through.
