I know, I know... . "It is not wheelchair accessible." But what I want to ask those who have been to Olympia, is "If we are determined, can my daughter (previously a star athlete before the car accident that landed her in a wheelchair) see at least some of Olympia?" We know we would have to find our own transportation to the site. We are on a cruise that stops in Katakolon on July 30. What do you think?

Since this is a few years after your posting, I am wondering what you found out as far as wheelchair accessiblility for Olympia and transportation from Katakolon to Olympia. We are traveling next week and one of our group of 4 is wheel chair confined (ALS). We are not finding much except maybe the train and then don't really know if that will work or not.

Any input would be nice.

Hi,

Most of Olympia is accessible by wheelchair. There are a number of steps if you go in the usual way, (museum entrance) but if you go to the site entrance 1st it's ok. You will be able to see a fair amount of the site & you can go to the museum afterwards, because if you go from the site to it there are no steps & there is a ramp at the museum entrance.

Extra tip, buy a combined ticket for the site & museum rather than get them seperately, it saves you about 3 euros per person.

Any suggestions on how to get there with a wheel chair?

I would presume the easiest would be to get a taxi (limited amount I believe) or hire a car. There is a bus, but this would probably not be an option, particularly as you have to change at Pyrgos.

Take a look at www.katakolon.informe.com

It's a relatively new site but it might be worth asking on there.
