Wanting to book to Lapland for New Year but with who?

Hello

I would really like some help as I am really new to booking ski/snow/winter holidays (usually find me on a sun drenched beach!) so I really am struggling to decide which company to book a 5-7 night holiday over New Year. It is just me (28) and my Husband (31) who really want a change from the sunshine and want to try snowboarding, husky safari, snowmobiles etc and celebrate New Year in the snow : ) we have a budget of £2000 but who are the best companies to travel with who wont treat us like 'a number' and help us explore what the country has to offer.

Many thanks

have a look at inghams - they will be your best bet as they do week long stays and then you can book any extras with them - new year will be expensive though but you will get it within your budget

Hi!

Why wouldn't you try DIY? Flights from UK to Kittilä you could surely get with less than 700£ for two and for the accommodation there are plenty of choices.

the flights alone can cost a min of £200 each and then you have to get the accommodation so in most instances it is not cheaper to DIY

LHR - Kittilä seem to cost from £229/return per person on Finnair on the second week of January. Accommodation for 6 nights (e.g. double room in Lapland Hotel Sirkantähti incl. breakfast) costs ca. £624/room. So, this would total at £1082 for two persons (return flights + accommodation for 6 nights).

Especially accommodation might be cheaper when booked independently because among Finns 2nd week of January is off-season (school term will commence on the 11 January 2011). Self-catering accommodation would cost from £300 for 6 nights. Self-catering accommodation is available in cottages, apartment hotels, bungalow type accommodation, detached houses, you name it. A quick search at http://www.levi.fi booking engine returned hundreds of hits for the second week of January 2011.

Serensnow, just out of interest, how much did you pay for your trip?

Just checked also Blue1 (SAS) for LHR - Kittilä. On the second week of January they seem to cost ca £404/return for two persons. On airBaltic you could get flights for £195/return/person.

Inghams for 7 nights with flights, transfers and half board at the sirkantahti is £1194 for two people, that's just over £100 more that DIY and it is half board in stead of breakfast, the transfers are included and it's for an extra night so it is cheaper and easier to go with inghams from what I can tell

if you go self catering, staying in the Levilehto Chalets for two adults for 7 nights including flights and transfers (and under occupancy charges) it is £964 for two adults

both of the above are for the second week in Jan

Whilst I think it can be cheaper to do DIY when self catering/staying in a cabin it can also be more expensive as hiring locally in € is not great for us due the the conversion rate - I think that it turns out a better deal to DIY when there are larger parties going

the other thing to remember is that there are often great last min deals to be had from the uk especially in jan
