Inghams 3 Nights for a single parent - what else do I need?
Save

Hi all, my first post on here. I'm looking to take my 2 boys (4 and 5) to Lapland this December and most short breaks cost between £1700 and £2k.

So the Inghams 3 night trip is £500 cheaper! And with much better flight times (no leaving the house at 4am, which must be a nightmare for kids).

I appreciate I need to factor in a couple of hundred for the husky/reindeer ride and the snowmobile ride. Should I need to budget for anything else other than food and presents?

And should I consider anything else being a single dad with 2 boisterous boys?

I'm looking at the Levitunturi Hotel in Levi, should anyone have any comments on it.

Any help is much appreciated!

thanks

you will need to sort out clothing but apart from that you will be set to go - I would suggest if you are planning to do lots of rolling about in the snow that you get them all-in-ones as these stop all the snow going inside your suits - make sure you have good hats and waterproof gloves - don't get woolen ones as they will get wet

depending on how old your children are Inghams do a great selection of snowmobile trips - as they are young then they can go in the heated pod which they love - the trip that inghams do in levi is great and it takes you to the reindeer farm so the kids can see them - you will also not have to pay loads to do the trip, just make sure you say that one of the children are going on the back of the snowmobile with you then you won't have to pay the single supplement, you can then pop him into the pod before you set off ;-)

the huskies are amazing and fast and I am sure you will love it, again, you will need to decide if you are going to do the super or the mini trips and take a spare blanket with you to wrap over the kids when they are in the husky sleigh as it can get bitterly cold especially if you are driving the huskies and they are in the sleigh on their own - you may find the super too long for the children

the reindeer are slow but wonderful, but if you like fast things you may want to leave this trip out and just see them when you do the snowmobile trip

there is also kidsland (if it's still there) where the kids can play in the snow and there is sledging at the bottom of the slopes at point zero (the ski place) - you will probably spend all your time there as it's great fun and then over the road for a burger or fondu

you are going to have such fun and it's a holiday your boys are never going to forget

Hi,

I have been with Inghams Dec 2008 clothing was included. Just check. It was our second visit, first was Rovnemi then Yllas. First was hotel, very good and same deal with clothing in the price. You must remember the hotel we stayed in was miles'out' so captive audience, pack extra in suitcase, crackers, pot noodle, biscuits. packet drinking choc or coffee and t bags. I bought a very cheap kettle £5 in tesco and took with intention of leaving (remember your adapter) and 4 camping cups. After we arrived suddenly kettles appeared in rooms!!! Great to warm up. Drinks are expensive, but it is worth it when Santa arrives on his sleigh with reindeers. So good we booked again. This time log cabin....brilliant. SNow snow snow, too far away this tme for Rovnemi and the arctic circle and Santa village, but we had done that last time. Still trips, reindeers, huskies, went to Levi, no elves on this trip but santa was there. Log cabin fab, lovely log fire, lovely and warm. Own sauna, kitchen ,highly recommend. Clothes supplied. Just got off the plane walked to coach wearing good walking boots, hats gloves and a 'cheap' but warm ski jacket and primark thermals. On top had walking trs. Just fine. Coach takes you to warehouse they supply suits, boots, hats, gloves. You do not need to break bank if you are given clothing for your stay. Snow is dry and it is very cold but with the suits you do not feel it. Cheap thermals help, and I would do it again tomorrow. Took freezer bag on plane( when going to log cabin) with sausage, bacon cheese. Bacon every morning, or sausages, then sausage and mash (took instant mash...does for one day on holiday and it is fun!) even put 3 or 4pot noodles in and packet soups (cup a soup) box of weetabix in the case!!! The shops and there was only one supermarket are a bit dear, but got bread and milk, and one day a roasted chicken, eaten hot in the supermarket car park inbetween sledging down a big slope. Great fun, kids loved it , I loved it. Log cabin brill want to go again watching for deal. Not a cheap skate but taking food saved a lot and coming in out of the snow to hot choclate and biscuits was nice. Bacon was good in the morning, I cooked while the children went to collect logs from the log store. Enjoy yourself, just one thing, batteries die really fast on your camera. Good tip some one gave me use a throw away under water camera. It worked well and photos were resonable. My GOOD camera was short lived with the batteries first year but went to camera shop before second trip and got some better batteries . I envy you so much, enjoy this magical experience.
