few questions please!!!

well, trip is now booked!! off for four nights on 20th nov to the best western appts snow white levin klubi.Flying from Heathrow via Helsinki and landing in Ivalo. has anyone been there before?

first question!

what is the easiest way to get from ivalo to Levi? we land at just before 6pm local time, i've heard its only a 15 minute car ride away, but what costs am i looking at for bus or taxi?

question 2:

doing my research it seems temps for that week could be anywhere from -2 to -30. i dont fancy spending a load of my hard earned cash on specialised clothing if it is the milder end of the spectrum. However, i dont want to be left short either if its f-ing freezing! can you rent the appropriate clothing in Levi? ive heard theres an intersport there? any ideas on cost?

last question!

we have not booked via an agent, as we got a really good deal on flights and hotel when done diy style! how do we book husky and reindeer rides etc? do we do it when we get there or is it better to book over the internet prior to us going? any good sites?

thankyou and sorry for the questions!!!

ivalo to levi - 15 mins - I dont think so...saariselka is about 15 mins from ivalo whereas levi is at least 3 hours away

best western appts snow white levin klubi are in Levi and Ivalo is 3 hours away and I really dont know how you are going to get from one to another unless you hire a car - a taxi will cost you in excess of £300 I would have thought but also the time of year you are going to levi is bit early for snow so doing the trips is going to be hard

if you actually do have flights to ivalo then stay in saariselka - it is far more north than levi and you are more likely to have snow there for your trips

I am really concerned that you have made a mistake with your trip, I do hope you can cancel the accommodation etc

Different sides of the country.

I agree with Poe, get on to the accommodation immediately and try to cancel it as I very much doubt you'll be able to change the flights.

Confirming the above. You should have booked your flight to Kittilä, which is indeed a short taxi ride away from Levi. Looking at a map before booking is a very good idea.

Hope it's Kittilä you are flying to. Once you have sorted out the possible flight/accomodation issue, there will be no problem doing independent excursions while on location. Depending on prevailing conditions of course. Booking these can wait once you are there. The high season starts just before Xmas, so there will be availabilitiy for sure.

Happy landings to Kittilä! Take a look of prices - for example the company below has got nice and detailed weekly programs, and suppose they can be ordered via net? http://www.laplandsafaris.com/index.php?lang=en

See excursion and trip possibilities at http://www.levi.fi/en/experiences/programs-during-december.html (you can contact the tourist info of Levi to find out for the possibilities in November). The weekly programme starts runnin in the beginning of January (until early May).

Currently the snow situation is not too good (no snow at all anywhere in Finland), so it's better to wait until you get to Levi before booking to find out what really is available/doable.

You can also see the up-to-date snow situation in Levi at http://www.levi.fi/en/home.html .
