Hi has anyone stayed at either of these? I am trying to decide where to stay, going after Christmas to new year so am limited to where we can go but have been looking at both of these hotels but am worried that they are not remote enough have visited Levi before and would not choose to stay there as too busy.

yllas is a lot quieter than levi by miles - its a lot more spread out

the snow elf is a main sort of hub for a lot of the tour ops where as the snowprincess, even though more in the centre of the village is quieter from what I recall

are you defo going to yllas as saariselka is lovely :)

Because we are going on the 26th December I can not find any trips there, there seems to be only flights before Christmas may have to do this one next time. Last time we visited we went to Pallas and stayed at the snowy wilderness lodge which was lovely but as we are taking friends this time I am not sure if this will be too remote for them as you have to rely on the tour operator to take you anywhere.

Ylläs in general is maybe more biased towards families seeking the peace and wilderness of Lapland. However, in the main hotels with their restaurants there is a party going on every night. The centre of the Äkäslompolo village is quite small and scattered though.

And also... those two hotels you mentioned are in two totally different villages in Ylläs. Snow Elf is in Äkäslompolo and Snow Princess in Ylläsjärvi, which is more quiet. You can ski between the villages (or take a taxi).

Snow Elf has a funny old nickname 'pirtukirkko', which means 'booze church' in English. If you look at the front of the building you get the idea where the name came from.
