Last year I visited Saariselka for 3 days in the run up to Christmas and fell in love with the place. We didn't see the northern lights so have opted to return to Lapland in February 2013 for 7 days with the hope that there will be a slightly better chance. The problem is that I can't decide whether to return to Saariselka or try Levi or Yllas.
Nowhere could be more magical and quaint than Saariselka but I'm worried that 7 days will be too long for Saariselka (my husband gets back pain if we are out skiing for more than a few hours and I doubt he'd be willing to walk up to the top of the toboggan run more than once). If we return to Saariselka and get bored, I'm worried the magic will be lost. If I try another resort, will the experience be entirely different and thus less enjoyable? Will there be a little more to do in the vicinity? (without having to pay for too many exorbitant excursions)
We'd like to do a bit of x country skiing and down hill skiing(beginners), snowshoeing and a nighttime snowmobile trip. A night, it would be good to find a bar/restaurant with live music or go somewhere where we can sit outside in the snow with our own drinks and nibbles.
Any help would be much appreciated x
