Yeah, I know Wally and po.tuesday. It still feels a little weird not going back.
We went for 3 weeks in December just gone, and in previous years for 2 weeks at a time, so this year it all just felt SO familiar, and the kids are older now (well, not kids any more, will be 16 & 17 by next December) and they are getting to that age where they are not bothered whether we go or not, and we got the feeling this year that they would rather be around their mates, Xbox, etc. etc. So, yeah, if they were younger it would be a no brainer, but you know what teenagers can be like.
The thing is, we went to Tenerife last August, and the lads loved it, made mates, and met girls, etc, which you don't really get in Lapland, which I think was a real turning point for them, holiday-wise, and I think spurned an end of an era for our fantastic, Lapland adventure.
On the positive, they are now great skiers, and have learned a culture (in Finland) where people can actually be nice, and pleasant (unlike the UK) to each other, and have memories as children most will never have - we have been fortunate to have been able to go so often, and for so long, and we will never forget it.
Lapland is a very special place, and I will probably never stop looking at the webcams come December time, but I think this year told us that it is time to let go of the fascination, and love affair with Lapland - as hard as that is. An amazing time in our lives - that is what we will always remember.
Andrea? I would recommend Ingham to you for what you are looking for :-)
