We have usually booked for this year by now, but after having been 8 years solid, we are giving Lapland a miss this year, and will be going on a sunny holiday over Xmas and New Year instead. Not decided where yet.

At the moment, that decision does not feel too bad. But I am sure that when it gets closer to December it will feel VERY strange not going back. It is a fantastic feeling come December knowing you are spending Christmas and New Year in Lapland.

Everybody who is going to Lapland this year, have a great time, and I am sure we will be back. We have totally loved our time there over the years :-)

Hi croc121,

Well that is Headline News lol.

I've been back a couple of weeks and as usual loved every minute of it, but no Northern Lights this year.

I normally alternate between Europe & Finland, but looking at the options for solo skier in either Italy or Austria which is not a lot without paying crazy single room supplements I will be back in Levi next year.

With the new Chairlift on No. 8 being ready for next year it was a helpful tick in the boxes.

Hope you don't get withdrawal symptoms lie you say from Autumn onwards.

Wow! You must know it really well. Can you give me any tips please? I have wanted to go for years and this year I'm finally going to do it but I don't know where to start! I'll be taking my 9 year old son but not my hubby as he won't fly!! Seeing Father Christmas is an absolute must for both of us, as well as a husky ride and some fun in the snow. we'd prefer a friendly, family place to stay with some things to do when we're back at our accommodation. if you can make any suggestions I'd be very grateful.Thank you!

Yeah, I know Wally and po.tuesday. It still feels a little weird not going back.

We went for 3 weeks in December just gone, and in previous years for 2 weeks at a time, so this year it all just felt SO familiar, and the kids are older now (well, not kids any more, will be 16 & 17 by next December) and they are getting to that age where they are not bothered whether we go or not, and we got the feeling this year that they would rather be around their mates, Xbox, etc. etc. So, yeah, if they were younger it would be a no brainer, but you know what teenagers can be like.

The thing is, we went to Tenerife last August, and the lads loved it, made mates, and met girls, etc, which you don't really get in Lapland, which I think was a real turning point for them, holiday-wise, and I think spurned an end of an era for our fantastic, Lapland adventure.

On the positive, they are now great skiers, and have learned a culture (in Finland) where people can actually be nice, and pleasant (unlike the UK) to each other, and have memories as children most will never have - we have been fortunate to have been able to go so often, and for so long, and we will never forget it.

Lapland is a very special place, and I will probably never stop looking at the webcams come December time, but I think this year told us that it is time to let go of the fascination, and love affair with Lapland - as hard as that is. An amazing time in our lives - that is what we will always remember.

Andrea? I would recommend Ingham to you for what you are looking for :-)

Hi croc121,

Just booked my ninth visit for next year after looking at Italy & Austria, supplements for solo traveller too much and didn't want to do any early returns flights either.

So I will have to fly the flag for us croc..

Andrea - totally endorse Inghams. We used them in 2012 when we went to get married. Best value - way better than the short Santa trips and good choice of accommodation. Helpful reps too.
