We would like to see this village, but wonder if there is good train
or bus service and whether there is enough time in one day to
see the major sights??
I'm assuming you mean a day trip to Innsbruck from Salzburg. Yes, there is an excellent train service and it's do-able in a day. We looked into doing this last year and got a timetable from the Hauptbahnhof. In the end we did something else instead but we will consider the trip at some stage.
Innsbruck is much more a town than a village. It is more spread out than Salzburg and in my opinion not so nice. The mountain scenery is spectacular though and others may be able to recommend sights for you to see.
The train service is excellent and often. Think about what you want to do in Innsbruck, though. If it is hang around the Altstadt, Salzburg's is much nicer. BTW Innsbruck is SO not a village.
We just got back from Innsbruck. They have a sightseer bus that takes you around to all the major sights. It is a hop on hop off service. Not sure of the cost - we used the Innsbruck Card which is 23Euros for a day and includes the cost of all the attractions/museums and transportation on the sightseer bus and public buses and trains.
We went to the Olympic Ski Jump which has a wonderful view of Innsbruck and the Alps. There is a lovely restaurant at the top.
The alstadt (old town) area is nice to walk around - lots of shops in quaint little alley ways.
Have a great trip!
