Half day to sightsee in Innsbruck. What should we do????
Save

We will be arriving in Innsbruck by train at approx 9.30 in the morning and departing at a similar time the following morning.

I would love some suggestions of what we should do with our brief stopover. We will probably stay at the Goldener Adler Hotel. Does anyone know how far this hotel is from the train station? I would love to take a cable car up a mountain if at all possible. We will be there in late November.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

There is a very good information center at the train station with lots of brochures, etc. They have always been helpful with us. They could help you with info on the cable car ride. Or - Here is the link to the tourist office in Innsbruck. If you write them about the cable car rides, I'm sure they will get back to you.

It is not a far walk to the Old City. We have enjoyed walking around the old city and seeing the sights, the stores, the church, the palace. There is also a very interesting Folk Museum that has wonderful displays on life in the area very long ago. They also have a wonderful display of Creches.

The Goldener Adler is a doable walk from the train station. We did it with a toddler in a stroller while pulling two wheeled suitcases.

Goldener Adler is in the heart of the old city and is just around the corner from the river. You will love that hotel -- we did.

Patscherkofel has a cable car that takes you to just below the summit. There are a few restaurants and one hotel near the top. November is an iffy time to visit since it may be too cold to hike around and it may be cloudy. I cannot recall whether there is a restaurant in the cable car station building. (We were there in July and enjoyed the outdoor cafe; I was there years ago in March or April and only remember the rain and the clouds.)

I agree with the idea of going to the folk museum and would add that you buy the combi ticket to also go to the chapel and mausoleum (just across the courtyard form the museum).

Thanks to both of you for your suggestions. The weather will almost definitely be a factor in what we are able to do. We have decided to travel at this time of year because we will be celebrating our wedding anniversary while in Paris. This holiday is a gift to ourselves!

It will definitely be a complete change for us to travel in winter. We are from a very tropical climate with little or no winter. We have travelled to Europe in April/May and Sept/Oct before so this will be something very different. Looking forward to seeing the Christmas decorations in December.

Thanks again.

It's worth checking in advance what cable cars will be open when you are there - November is "out of season", some only operate during the summer and winter. check:

For details of the Patscherkofel lift.
