We're going in August for 4 days or so. I am specifically looking for ideas that are a little more "child-friendly", i.e. I would love to go to an indoor concert but that is probably out of the question :)
Thanks in advance!

many things for younger children in Vienna
have a look at the Tourist website
click on specials
you will find a section there devoted to childrens activities. You can pick activities best suited for your child.
One really good place is Schönbrunn Palace.
note tours just for children - an on-line introduction regarding lives of the children living in the palace too.
Nearby is the marionette theater - numerous programs that vary in length - a mini concert-

In the gardens of Schönbrunn is a very nice zoo- a change of pace and a good time- You can take a small train or horse carriage from the entrance iof the palace to it.
Some like the House of Music in the city center
special programs for kids- they can lead an orchestra too.
Take a ride on a streetcar- all kids seem to like it.
Go to the prater Amusement park- home to the giant ferris wheel and many other rides.
Who knows maybe you find a concert to go to - check under the events section of the tourist site-
Just enter the dates you will be in Vienna for all activities.
Vertical, thank you so much! This is most helpful.
I did a search as well and saw your previous suggestions to other posters, si thanks for that as well :)
Our daughter not only sat quietly through the Marionette opera ("Eine kleine Mozart," I think -- the shorter program) but she was completely mesmerized by it. We all loved it. Buy your tickets NOW since the theatre is small.
I assume you found the good thread about what to do with two year-olds.
Another recommedation for the marionette theatre. My littlelies just loved it.
They also liked walking past the stables of the Lipizaner horses (sorry the name escpaes me at the moment). In winter they were housed right in the middle of the city.
Also the zoo and the grounds of Schönbrunn. My DD fell in love with the squirrels. They were definatley a big hit.
Also on the Schönbrunn grounds there is a cafe. Below the cafe they do a "Strudelshow" They show you how to make a traditional austrian strudel. Demonstrations are conducted in various languages. The kids can also help make the strudel as part of the demostration.
My kids (4+5) loved Vienna. Have fun.
