Thanks for your advice on whether to rent a car. (We will.) And thanks for the advice on what to see.
Can y'all recommend where to eat? We like any kind of food except brussels sprouts.

I know I hate Brussel sprouts too.......
You can try numerous restaurants in Wollongong. There are some lovely ocean front restaurants available like the Diggers Club, and some interesting ones in Keira Street like Lorenzo's Diner and Caveau both are fine dining restaurants.
For a good cheap Italian Michael's trattoria in Crowne Street.
Take a stroll along the harbour and you will see some lovely cafes to dine at, I cannot remember all their names but we have had some great meals .
Novotel Northbeach provides a very good buffet lunch in very pleasant surroundings which I strongly recommend. Web site is:
Thanks to you both. We're staying at the Novotel, so it's good to know that we can enjoy a good meal there, too.
Hey.
Think Ellemay is thinking of oceanfront Diggies Cafe, which is straight across from the Novotel at the beach, and not Diggers Club, which is just off the mall in the middle of Wollongong. Diggies has been awarded best breakfast in the South Coast food awards and is excellent. Right next door is the sand on your shoes food and coffee in takeaway container Kiosk, which also has seats outside looking over the ocean. She is right about Caveau and Lorenzo's being the top two restaurants and Michael's being pretty good Italian. There are also many Asian restaurants in Keira St, a five minute cab ride from the Novotel. There are a few cafe/restaurants across the road from the ocean as you head north along the coast from the Novotel as well.
And, if you'd got here a little sooner, you might have enjoyed a bogong moth antipasto plate.
Thanks for the revised restaurant recommendations. I looked up Caveau's menu and it seems wonderful. I also like that Caveau will seat our young daughter. The Diggies Cafe sounds great for breakfast. I checked out the Diggies photos on the web.
Aargh: Michael's, Caveau and Lorenzo's are closed on Sunday, our first night in town. Do you have any other recommendations? Are we going to have a problem finding a restaurant open on a Sunday evening?
Ah, so we're going to miss the moth infestation after all??? I was so looking forward to the soft-shelled cicadas and the bogong moth antipasto plate.
well Jo Jo...the aboriginal population had an annual migration to the southern alps to emjoy a feast of bogongs.
