Kalipeda / Palanga to Liepaja, Lativa

My wife and I are planning a trip to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia in July.

Is it possible to travel from Kalipeda or Palanga to Liepaja? As we are travelling on Aussie passports, would there be any problems and the boarder?

Thanks

I have not yet traveled there, but I'm planning to move the same route. I found that Ecolines (buss) drives between Klaipeda and Liepaja:

It seems to cost 4.75 Euro if you buy ticket via Internet and it takes about 2 hours.

I think you will not get any problems with border between Lithuania and Latvia. I suppose that there is not even systematic passport control, because both of the countries (Lithuania, Latvia) are Schengen countries.

(Schengen agreement means, that people between Schengen countries can cross the borders more easily)

There are no passport checks on the borders now but it may happen that a systematic check can be conducted whenever necessary. I suggest you ring your local Ministry of Foreign Affairs and clear that before you leave. I believe visa free entrance is up to 90 days in Lithuania for citizens of Australia but it may be important which country you are travelling from.

Hi Nick,

Not sure if you've left for your trip yet, but we got back yesterday from doing the same trip, just in reverse.

Tallinn to Parnu - Easy - plenty of local buses as well as Eurolines and Ecolines.

Parnu to Riga - We caught Eurolines, also think Ecolines does this

Riga to Leipaja - Local buses, they seemed to almost leave every hour! Cost 5.40 lats. Really easy, no need to book just walk up.

Leipaja to Palanga - Not as frequent, check times. There was one at 3 morning buses, but they didn't leave every day. Worth checking times at the local tourist office on arrival, or your hotel should be able to help. There's also little shuttle buses that go this way, at different times from a different bus stop. Worth checking out. Cost was 3 Lats on the bus, or 2.40 on the shuttle bus (Or about that?!)

Palanga to Klaipeda to Vilnius - We caught a bus to Klaipeda, then changed for the bus to Vilnius. Easy, nice enough bus, we just arrived and caught the next one. No need to book, left quite frequently. Some are express buses, others are not. Worth checking if you're on a timeline.

Hope this helps, we did this trip and it was amazing! Make sure you check out the beaches at Leipaja, BEAUTIFUL! :)

Oh, and no problems with passports, we didn't even get checked the entire time we were in the baltics. And we are Aussies.

Any questions, give me a shout.
