zip line canopy tour in belize

We spent the last week on the Grand Princess and one of our ports was Belize City, Belize. We spent the entire day with Donald of ZIP LINE BELIZE ( http://www.ziplinebelize.bravehost.com ). he met us at the dock and escorted us everywhere and we were amazed as we bypassed the long, long lines of our fellow ship passengers. The organized cruise excursions only had time for one adventure due to the long lines and time constraints of so many people on big buses....in fact, several times we overheard people grumbling and asking why we were getting to go past them....however, there were 6 of us in our own minivan and following a city tour we first went to the Belize Aerial Trek and ziplined thru the rainforest canopy with great guides, excellent equipment and it was fun, fun, fun! Next, we went around the corner to Jaguar Paw Resort and tubed thru 3 cave systems and saw amazing caverns with bats, stalactites, etc. Again, we had 2 guides (Donald was one of our guides) that stayed with just the 6 of us whereas the cruise excursions had 35-40 people and only 2 guides....they couldn't seem to keep up with their people and looked completely disorganized. The cruise excursions had lunch under a shed while we were escorted inside the Jaguar Paw Resort restaurant for a terrific lunch and a tour of the resort including the resident howler monkey who looked in the window while we ate(he dropped down out of a tree about 4 inches from my nose when we walked outside and I wanted to touch him but Donald said no....his bite could be ferocious), the butterfly farm, pool, cabanas and just amazing tropical rainforest flora and fauna!!!! Following lunch we went to the Belize Zoo for up close (I mean way, way up close)views of Belizean wildlife including howler and spider monkeys, jaguars, macaws and so much more. Then Donald escorted us downtown for shopping at a Belizean grocery store (Donald recommended several items) and a souvenir shop. They kept a constant watch on our time so that we wouldn't miss the boat and were so warm and friendly. Donald pointed out many things and gave us the history of Belize as we drove thru both Belize City and the countryside. You could never find a better tourguide anywhere! Thank you Donald for a wonderful time and we hope to see you both again!

Your post was so helpful! We are going on the Grand as well and would love to locate your Donald. Any hints as to how we do this>? I searched but Belize Zip Line is too vague. Did you book before you left and if so how?

I appreciate any help you can give us- the comments on the long line from the cruise excursions confirmed my apprehension about booking them.

Thanks so much and Happy Holidays!

It is better to book in advance. He requested this from us because he needed to make arrangements for our arrival.

All the best.

Myself and my family did the zip line tour with Donald last week . We were on the carnival. The cruise line does not offer the combo of the zip line and the cave tubing. With them it is one or the other. Thanks to you helpful ones on this forum I managed to get in touch with Donald and had a great time in Belize. Just to show you how much we enjoyed the tour, I will say that it was the best thing that has happened since cruising to the western caribbean.

What I found interesting is that Donald offer his services at reasonable prices and the quality of service is extraordinary. He speaks with a sense of passion, answering every question coming his way. I loved the medicinal plants, His grand mother was a medicine lady, and he got his knowledge of medicinal plants from her.

We got a group discount rate from Donald. He mentioned that groups of 10 persons and more is : $ 110.00, otherwise the price is $ 120.00, in some cases he offer at $ 115.00

From my experience with Donald , I think his services is worth more than what he charges: air conditioned van, history presentations, medicinal plants presentations, lunch in air condition comfort , and a special offer of the Belize Zoo.

This is indeed great service. MY FAMILY AND I HIGH RECOMMEND DONALD TO ALL WHO WANT TO HAVE A GREAT TIME IN BELIZE.

I want to thank all of you who posted your experiences wiith Donald Rmirez on this site. Without you I surely would have had a hard time choosing the right company to do the cave tubing and Zip line tour.

We were on the GRAND PRINCESS and booked through Donald Ramirez and I need to mention that his services were the best I have ever experienced since travelling. He was very polite with the children and it looks like he is in love with job very much. The drive through the country side to the cave was about 45 minutes, and the road was not very bad . It was just one mile that had potholes. When we got to the site we did the zip line canopy without havinig to wait on long lines ( we were the first there ). My wife is not a swimmer, and when we mentioned that to Donald he just said, " that is not a problem. I will take care of that" . I loved the hike through the rain forest, the air was clean and refreshing. Donald did presentations on medicinal plants. He was very expresssive about the Maya History.

When we got to the entrance of the cave Donald joined us together forming a chain. His assistant ,Jose took control of the others while Donald took special care of my wife ( the none swimmer ). At one point I was expecting my wife to aske for a divorce. The way Donald held on to her, I said I was in trouble. But what I loved most of all is the special attention he gave my wife since she is not a swimmer. She didn't want to go, but now, Donald Ramirez is her hero.

Our group had 13 members and I am happy to say that we had a great time with Donald Ramirez. I recommend his services to you. Not to mention that we got a group discount and the group leader goes free depending of the group size. His email is : zipbelize@yahoo.com

Thanks again

what kind of post is this???

""Why isn't TA shutting down the posts from all these fake user names (like every post on this thread except probably Nancy from Waco) claiming to be having such great experiences with DONALD. Lots of fake names, all with just a handful of prior posts, all claiming DONALD is such a great zipline guy, all using great language like "Myself and my family......" This is so blatant- ""

Have you been there?

obviously not...

As Donald was the best tour guide we have ever had.......his knowlege was amazing, we saw the Zoo, did the zip line, and Mayan Ruins at Alta Un.....and he got us back to the dock 15 min before the last tender....and did I mention leaving my credit card at a gas station in Belize.....when we got back to the boat, my cabin phone was blinking....Donald had retrieved my credit card from the gas station, drove to the docks and gave it to the Legends staff, all before we had even returned to the ship.

Honest

Knowlegable

Stand up guy

He is THE MAN you want for a great day in Belize

Took a cruise for vaca to the Caribbean, Grand Cayman, Costa Maya, Belize, and Cozumel, was a killer trip.

Best part was hooking up with Donald Ramirez, a private tour guide in Belize. If you have been on cruises to the Caribbean, you know that when the ship docks, 3000 people jump off and flood the towns, and buses going on "cattle tours". Not my cup of tea, to be crammed in a bus, then wait in huge lines to do whatever you are signed up for.

Don met us on the dock in Belize at 7:30 am. We made the first tender boat from the ship, but hit Belize at rush hour.....No problem Mon! Don zipped us put of town using back roads, we beat the masses, and were the FIRST folks to get to the Zip line rainforest canopy tour.

If you have never done a zip line, you need too! With proper equipment you are hooked up to steel cables, and "ZIP" through the treetops and rainforest to the next "station", big tree where you unhook/hook back up to the next zip line and then zing down the cable to the next tree. It was way too cool!

But the best part we got done just as the first of the busses from the cruise ship tours showed up, and the masses descended upon the tour.

Then we checked out the zoo, jaguars, tapir, and other neat animals......then it was off to Mayan ruins , alta un, I think it was called, about 20 miles out in the middle of nowhere, a Mayan city, was amazing!

Then he took us on a city tour, and showed us things you would never see on a cattle tour...then he got us back to the dock 15 min. before the last tender back to the ship.

Don was so well informed on the archaeology and history of the people of Belize, I was amazed at his knowledge, and abilities to give us an incredible day touring Belize.

If you are going to Belize, you need to hook up with Don for an amazing day...far from the cruise boat crowds. I am going to be putting up some pictures of the trip on my website later. Don"t just see Belize, see it with Don, a resident of Belize.

Belize it or not!

I just recently returned from a short cruise (Enchantment of the Seas) which included a stop in Belize City. While there my family and I took a zipline tour from Donald Rameriz (website: www.ziplinebelize@bravehost.com, e-mail: zipbelize@yahoo.com). I had read many posts on Tripadvisor which spoke very highly of Donald - I agree that some of these posts looked suspect - many from people with only one or two prior posts. I would just like to say that everything that was in those posts was true - Donald Rameriz is honest, trustworthy and knowledgable. I had no problem contacting him - he always promptly responded to my e-mails. We were a little slow getting off of the ship in Belize - unless you purchase an excursion through Royal Caribbean it's difficult to get an early tender off the ship. Despite this, Mr. Rameriz patiently waited for us, he was very cordial, and we had no problems at all. Instead of being herded with the large ship tours, he drove the three of us in his air conditioned vehicle to the zipline site, guided us ahead of many of the other tour groups - we were done, relaxing and eating lunch while many of those on the ship tours were still in line. As for lunch, we got to dine in a wonderful air-conditioned restaurant, while the ship tour groups ate outside under a tin/thatch roofed canopy - lucky for them it wasn't raining! Though we got done quickly, we were never rushed. Bottom line - Donald Rameriz does a great job, and I can wholeheartedly recommend his services.
